Hi all,
Dottie had her rabies shot (3yr) a week ago today. Yesterday she wasn't herself, weak, not eating and drinking water. I've been giving her water by mouth with a water bottle, but she won't eat. She is so weak that she just lays in one spot all day sleeping. I'm taking her in to the vet today to have her looked at. She also is on antibiatics for a skin allergy, which she won't take now due to being sick. Could this be from the rabie shot?
I'm soooooooooo concerned.
Thanks,
Maria
So Sorry for your Sudden Loss
Bless her and may she rest in eternal peace.

Dottie passed away this morning, so sad.
You are so right! This came on suddenly with no warnings. She went in to cardiac arrest while I was on the phone with the vet. I told them to let her go. Her lungs were filling with fluids and she wasn't able to make it. This is a terrible desease that I read up about and I hope for many they don't have to experience it. I'm so glad I was to see her yesterday while she was alive and I went there to hold her one last time to say good-bye.
I couldn't have asked for any more from this loving dog, she gave me everything and will be greatly missed.
God Bless all our dogs, they give so much and ask so little of us.
Missing my girl,
Maria

Prayers for Dottie
We fought the disease for 7 weeks before I had to let my girl go. She hadn't had any recent shots but did have a litter of 8 week old puppies when she came down with this awful sickness.
Her blood count got down to as low as 12. Had two transfusions which helped a bit for a short while. At least the blood kept her alive anyways.
We tried every medicine known and got advice from 4 different vets but she finally lost her fight two weeks after her 4th birthday. :<( <br>
Everything I've read states that if it comes on suddenly like it did in my girl's case, it is hard to cure.
My vet had two other recent cases but they both got the disease gradually and both did very well with just prednisone and are doing well.
I pray your Dottie gets thru this nightmare disease.

According to article--vaccinations can trigger event
Immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), also known as auto-immune mediated hemolytic anemia (AIHA), is a disease in which the body's immune system, which is designed to attack and kill germs, attacks and kills the body's own red blood cells. The attack begins when antibodies, which are molecules made by the immune system to target germs, instead attach to and target the animal's own red blood cells for destruction. The red blood cells carry oxygen to the tissues, and the animal cannot survive without adequate oxygenation of the tissues.
The causes of IMHA remain largely unknown. While some cases of IMHA may be associated with a triggering event (cancer, infection, and perhaps even vaccinations), these events do not explain why the immune system misdirects its arsenal of weapons against the animal it is meant to protect.

I took Dottie to the vet ASAP. DX=IMHA
Dottie has IMHA and they are giving her blood transfusions. Please pray for her, please. I'm so worried about her. For Dottie this was something that just came on suddenly which I was told it can or there can be symptoms you notice prior too. Is there any relation to her having her rabies shots a week ago, which may have onset it? At least she is in good hands. I just hope she can get through this.
Thank you,
Maria

Agree...vet's office ASAP...possible Bloat or similar!
Not eating or drinking coupled with lethargy equals emergency situation IMHO> please let us know what vet says...and make sure he x-rays her stomach/abdomen.
