Demodex treatment puppy vomitted on interceptor meds

I posted a couple days ago about my puppy with the bumps and red bumps on his belly. I started the capstar and the milbemycin oxime that the vet told me to give him these daily along with an antibiotic simplicef and on the third day he vomitted a little at night but last night he vomitted alot and was salivating also he got hives and the red bumps got really red. These seems like an adverse reaction so should I stop these 2 meds and just give him the antibiotics and let my vet know on Monday? I checked and what he has seems to be pyoderma so what medication would help? I am planning to take him to dr sweets and hopefully get some answers, do you recommend this?

Thank you
Dee

I agree...stop all meds until you talk with your vet.

Benadryl (comes in 25mg tablets, dose 1mg per pound)should help with the hives (red bumps on belly) and consider if it could be the detergent you are washing his bedding with? In that case, either use a second rinse cycle or wash with something very mild like Dreft (for baby clothes) and avoid Tide and other full-strength products this coming week...see if this makes any difference. happy.gif

I would stop all the meds until...

you talk to the vet. You can't be sure which one is causing the reaction, it could just as well be the antibiotic. Do you have any benedryl on hand? You can give him two pills if he's over 50 pounds, it will stop the allergic reaction.

Tide is the only detergent I am not allergic too

I've had allegies to soaps and detergents my whole life. I break out if I use anything other than Tide. I used to only be able to use safeguard soap but I can now use others. It's funny but the one soap I was most allergic to as a child was Ivory and it's supposed to be so pure.

Tide is the only detergent that we can use

any changes, either my husband or one of the dogs starts to itch. I've never had any problems with Tide. Been using it forever.

Tide is one of the harshest/worst detergents for an allergic rea

I use Arm & Hammer for sensitive skin with Clorox for the whites and no fabric softner for the dogs things. You can add 1 cup white vinegar to the rinse water and it does pretty good to soften.

Ok will stop all meds

He sleeps with me and no change in detergents. The antibiotic he is on now might be a generic to the one he was on before with dr barney because after two hrs of giving it I noticed the top eyelids were red and his muzzle were all slightly swollen. I will take him to another bulldog vet dr sweets in Folsom to get her opinion on this matter. Thank you all for your advice.

Dee

Wil do. I use tide with Downey April fresh

He vomitted this morning with the antibiotic that I gave him yesterday morning and it's the same strength 100mg and when I looked it up it's name is cephadoxime proxetil which is the name dr barney gave me when he was six monthes but I was told to give half a tablet a day and at the time he weigh 20 lbs now he's 27 lbs at 10mos so this vet said to give him100mg once a day. So I don't know if I should have given him half a tablet two times a day but I will stop all meds until I see another vet. Thank you all for helping

Dee.

Be sure to take the other bottles with you when you see 2nd vet.

There may be more than one strength of a medication and if she asks, you will have the info right at hand...also she may be able to see if its generic or trade-name medication as there can infrequently be some difference in the base (starch) used in production.
