Glad your getting some answers

and that he finally pooped. Hopefully they won't have to do surgery but if they do at least you know what the problem is and a possible fix.

Soory you are going throug this. Those vet bills can really skyrocket. I've been right there with you.

Continuing good thoughts

update vet called

they did the fluoroscopy with the barium and said he has esophagitis from the vomitting and they will do the endoscopy to confirm if he has a hiatal hernia that will require surgery to make the sphincter close tightly so the stomach acid wont reflux back up to the esophagus and further damaging it. They are giving medications for the inflammation of his esophagus and do the endoscopy tomorrow at 130pm and they are all booked for the emergency surgeries so if he has the hernia they will probably do it next week. At least I have some answers here.

he threw up last night, he's at UC davis vet hospital

I dropped him off this afternoon and after the consultation, they said that he is not vomitting because he doesn't haunch and retch, but it was projectile so they said he was regurgitating. They will do the barrium fluoroscope this evening and see if they can pick up anything so i'm wating for them to call me back, if they can't see anything then they will do the endoscope tomorrow morning. the vet thinks that the sphincter/valve from his stomach or esophagus might not be closed tightly or with this breed when they breathe they suck in air and might suck in the sphincter from the stomach so it causes some malfunction. And if that is the problem then he will have to undergo surgery to have it fixed. When he was a puppy he could not eat dry food and would throw up right away, and soaking the food helps so I guess as he gets older this problem also progresses. I'm not sure just waiting for the vet to call back. I don't think I could sleep tonight without his snoring.

Yay!!!

That's wonderful news! Hope he continues to improve! happy.gif

That's comforting to hear...that its something that can be "fixe

All our prayers are with you...

we're going thru some serious stuff with our Tiffy, and we want answers, too. She just keeps slowly drifting away and not eating. My heart is sick with worry, and I'm sure yours is, too.

We're sending you postive thoughts of comfort for you both. You must be a basket case by now. I know I am...

Lita and Tiff

Has the vet...

Considered something for the nausea/vomiting? Reglan would help the gut motility as well as help the n/v. It wouldn't be good to give in the presence of an obstruction, but since that was ruled out... Just a thought.
Poor boy. Good luck. It's a shame you have to wait till next week!

Did you do a fecal test ?

I had suggested this before and you said he had not pooped yet. Just want to make sure you cover all the bases. Something may show up there. You never know. Hugs to the Frenchie.

update

well he did throw up again last night and some this morning. I don't see any chicken bits just some liquid no mucus. His complete blood works came back, everything is normal his red blood count is slightly high, but not too significantly high. I really don't know what is wrong and the vet does't know either. Will just have to wait for the endoscopy procedure next monday.

Better sooner than later

Glad you're getting him evaluated. I'll be having good thoughts for him!

our prayers are with you and and your little guy

Please keep us posted. This is a mystery.

i'm taking him to UC Davis animal hospital tomorrow

i said it was an ER and the coordinator said I can bring him in tomorrow noon time for a consultation and then leave him overnight and they will do the endoscopy the next morning. This is better than waiting til next monday.

he hasn't pooped yet

i will try to get him to poop tonight and bring the sample in tomorrow, i hope that is ok.

thank you. he finally pooped! twice too!

i'm so excited he finally pooped! he is eating the boiled chicken on his own tonight which is a really good sign. This morning and the other days, i had to hand fed him and he only ate very little, this afternoon he ate a big bowl. I think the flagyl is really kicking in, it's his 3rd day on it and I'm glad I asked for this, none of the vets thought to give this just gave me the pepcid and cerenia. And at least no obstruction was found on the ultrasound so now I'm hoping he can keep the food down tonight. He's also more active tonight too, he's jumping up and down the couch and playing with his squeaky ball.

I hope your dog feels better too, put some pedialyte down and if she doesn't drink get a small syringe(no needle) and squirt some in on the sides of her cheeks, that is what I've been doing. I fast mine for one day with just the pedialyte. Next day I gave him boiled chicken to get him to eat and then the flagyl which I got last Sunday after I saw a post here so if he doesn't throw up then I know the flagyl is working. I will still take him to UC Davis hospital for a checkup and see what they think I should do next because if he is fine, I don't think they would do the endoscopy if he doesn't need it. And it's always good to get a 3rd opinion.I'm really thankful for this forum.

yeah toes crossed too

i hope he can keep the food down. tomorrow i can make him poop, just cut a small piece of bar soap and put it in, he will go right away. I didn't do it the other days because he couldn't keep any food down. i'm just glad there is no obstruction and pancreatitis.

they did the ultra sound and

found nothing, no obstruction just a small amount of gas. All other organs are normal no mass or anything. I asked if I need to do the barium xray and they said the ultrasound picked up nothing so there is no need to do the barium. They referred me to a specialist to do an endoscopy to go down his stomach and intestines to see next monday at 9am. He is eating chicken more today then the other days so will wait to see if he vomits tonight or not, I just hope not. In the meantime, I still give him flagyl. He seems more alert today, but still sleeps most of the time and he still drinks water more than usual. I did the blood test to test for pancreatitis and it comes back negative. The vet really don't know what is wrong with him and said the best choice is to do the endoscopy in Capitola, CA. Will keep you all updated. Thank you for asking about him.
