cross post ref food issues..... again :(

So Dink has been much better since being on meds and some prescription food from the vet. Everything seems back to normal. He has been back on his regular food for a day and a half. He eats Natural Balance duck and potato and today he has the runs again so I'm thinking that the duck and potato is just not settling well on his tummy. Anyone have any suggestions for a different food. We would like to keep him on and allergy formula since he has had paw licking issues before, but maybe there is something a little easier for him to digest out there than what we are currently feeding.

Thanks in advance happy.gif

thanks to you all for the feedback! We

haven't tried a food with fish instead of a red meat so I'll have to look into that. He did just go back on the regular food but he was having stomach issues before the prescription diet came into play. He had been on the duck and potato for 2 weeks or so and even on the food before that which was a chicken and rice his stools seemed to be to soft. I don't think that we over feed, we feed the dogs twice daily once in the morning and again in the evening about a cup and a half each feeding.

How much food?

Overfeeding a little?

well u have just changed him from the prescription

back to his old food correct? If so he will need some time to adjust to that change. Give it a week and if it's not back to normal then I'd consider a different food or putting him back on the prescription stuff if you can afford it.

Have you tried him on a "fish" diet?

If he's having a problem with 'red meat' or 'fowl' then a fish and sweet potato or similar would be a possibility. Check with some of the larger brands like Natural Balance or Natures Recipe, etc. and see what they offer, then check your local pet supply store and see if they carry it...and I would try a small bag to see if he'll eat it, and keep it down well. Remember that you cannot give "treats" that differ from the food (protein and starch source, both). Some products come in a canned variety also and people slice the canned, then "cube it" and dry it on a cookie sheet to make "treats" which are a little crunchy yet flavorful. happy.gif

kibby is doing well nature's variety salmon kibble

I think its called natures variety prairie salmon and brown rice kibble. we tried the natures variety instinct chicken and tapioca kibble because it was totally grain free but her poo was too soft (maybe not enough fiber?) ...we recently switched to this because the natures balance duck and potatoe seemd to giving her yeast issues and a bladder infection (someone on this site said it may cause crystals).I think maybe the duck was too much protein and then the potatoes made her yeasty.

She is doing much better now, no red tear stains and good poo. happy.gif
