I have a 2 and a half year old female bulldog named Henna who has recently decided to try to irriate the hell out of me (I know not on purpose though). For the first yearish we crated her during the day while we were at work and I would come home during my lunch break to let her out and take her on a short walk. She slept on our bed throughout the night. Last November my husband started working nights so we stopped crating her as much since he was home all day. He got a new job 2 months ago which has regular day hours and since Henna hadnt been crated during the day in awhile we decided that she would probably be ok staying out of the crate now (I still come home during lunch to let her out). It was fine at first but for the past month she has been having accidents in the house. She has also been waking us up every night at 2-3am to be let out (this is the time my husband used to get home from work so she must have gotten used to being up then). If we dont get up quickly enough for her she will pee on anything that has been left on the floor. She also has peed on the couch twice during this time! We have been making sure she goes out right before we got to bed (11-12ish) but it doesnt seem to make any difference. I don't know what to do!
I decided to start crating her again during the day to get her back on a schudule but she now HATES her crate. I have to pick her up to get her in it and then she shakes and is so scared to be in there. Before I could just tell her to get in and there would be no problem she would go in happily. She is usually very food motivated but even with peanut butter or cheese or even turkey she would not go near it and will hide from me if she thinks I am getting ready to leave. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
try to coax her in her crate by leaving the door OPEN ....
I find that all the dogs here..love the crate...provided the door is open.
they will go in there on their own..all of them..
I always leave an open crate in my livingroom
also you can add a nice blanket in there and they go in..for a daytime snooze
after that ..she might just go back to using it on her own again
goodluck
bullies do not like changes in routines..
my female just does NOT like any change..

she is a stubborn one...
Last night I was just trying to get her to sit near the crate (like 2 ft from it) and I was bribing her with sardines with no luck. I got her to come close and sit then after I gave her the treat she ran away! I think she got too used to sleep on the couch. She is a major couch-potato.
The last few days I have been keeping her on a more strict schedule and she seems like she is doing a little better. No accidents in the house and she didnt need to get up last night at all. She has a vet appt on Monday to rule out any medical issues but I am thinking she is being a brat about not getting her way.
How can I say no to this face??

Thanks for all the advice. It seems like a trip to the vet is in order. It makes sense that changing her schedule has been hard on her and I haven't been doing my best to make the transition easy. I will definitely work on readjusting her to her crate while I am home.

I agree with the above advice and..
you mentioned her pee'ing on things left on the floor. I had a male cat who did the same thing whenever he was mad at us and was pouting. Sounds like the change in schedule has been hard on her and she's not adjusting well. It didn't matter what we left on the floor even with a clean litterbox my cat would pee on shoe's, socks, towels, you name it just because he was mad at me and my husband. I would definatley rule out a UTI first and if thats all good, it sounds like she's just not adjusting to the new routine.

I agree
Rule out any medical issues first. When that's done, you could try a few things.
First, try crating for short periods when someone is home. That way, she doesn't associate crate time with being left alone. A kong with some peanut butter in the crate will make it more enjoyable (you can freeze the peanut butter stuffed kong before you give it to her to make it last longer). Gradually increase the time in the crate.
Also, you can try feeding her meals in her crate. My guys RUN for their crates at meal time! At night, I tell them it's "time go sleep", and they race for the crates and wait for the cookie I always give.
My dogs know good stuff happens in their crate.
Lastly, you really need to try to stick to a schedule. Dogs are very routine-oriented, and some don't handle change too well. Try to work out a schedule you can work with even on your days off.
Good luck!

The first thing I would do is...
have her checked for a urinary tract infection. You can just take a sample into the vet's office and they can check for bacteria.
