Cherry Eye surgery.....

Samson had cherry eye surgery about 2 weeks ago and his eye still looks red. I took him back to the vet last week because one of the stiches did not disolve and was rubbing his eye ball and we thought that was why his eye was so red. but this week it is still red we are on our 2nd bottle of eye drops. So i guess my question is am i just rushing the healing process and is it suppost to look like this? or should i consult with one of the vet that this web site recommends? If any of you have had this trouble please help! I look forward to hearing what you guys think.

looks normal to me too...possible side affect of your med

actually looks like it is healing very nicely...and FYI...if you are using the drops or ointment with a steroid in it..it will tend to stay red longer...just a side affect of that med...

Looks normal to me.

I had to have both of my bulldogs eyes done, they say if one eye has a cherry eye when they are young the other eye usually goes to. My vet was right, 3 weeks later the other eye developed cherry eye. I had them tacked back down using the laser procedure. They looked like that for at least 2 weeks and they took forever for the swelling and redness to go away. From what I learned it takes a while for that "cherry" to get used to the new position it is in. They should have carved more room for it and then sutured it in place. You will likely always be able to tell something was done, but others who don't know probably won't notice anything at all. I know I still notice that the third eyelid is thicker and sometimes more puffy then before the surgery. Its been over 6 months...
By the way by tacking it down, there is around a 20% chance it will develope dry eye later in life according to my vets manual. But if you remove the cherry eye the chance of dry eye increses to 80%. There is a 5% chance the cherry eye will pop back out.

There is no agreement on whether it is herediatry or not. The problem is that the characteristics we all love in Bulldogs are the reason they have these issues. All the wrinkles(excess skin) and short nose...
Cherry eye is most common in bullies under 2.

He had both eyes done. this one is from last month can you tell he had work done?

This one is 2 weeks after his surgery...zoom in on his eyes...

Re: cherry eye

Samson only had the left eye done. And we had it tacked! I am not sure what entropion is??

cherry eye

My Mr. Higgins had cherry eye surgery at 13 wks by a specialist. I also was concerned because his eyes were quite red after. Specialist said it was normal, so did my vet. Did yours just have the left eye done, or both ?
Now he has entropion, so redness continues, and will have this repaired in the winter mos, along with his airway. I`m hoping the redness will subside then. His eyes looked much like your boy`s after his surgery. I would love to know how other bullie`s eyes looked after their cherry eye repair. Mr. Higgins` were tacked, not removed. He gets lacrilube in each eye twice a day because of the entropion.
