Cherry eye question....

my male bulldog has this and I've pretty much been able to pop it back in whenever it comes out. Seems the last couple of days it comes out several times a day, I think he's making pop out by scratching his face from his allergies. Is it possible to just keep putting it back in or should this be surgically fixed by the vet? It's not red and there is not any discharge.

Get some eye ointment with steriod in it from your vet

and keep massaging it back in. I have had a few dogs that did'nt require surgery because of ointment and constantly putting it back in. And then it finally stayed in.

Dozer's popped out recently...

and we have been able to pop it back in but it's only happened 3 times. As far as i understand it's ok to keep popping it back in. You may want to get an E-collar or 'Cone of shame' as we call it to prevent him from scratching at his face til you get the allergy issues sorted out.We bought our collar at petsmart for like 15$ and it's been a life saver. Dozer got a Hemocytoma on his back foot last year and just licked and bit at it constantly, it got infected and was a mess. As soon as we put the collar on it healed up and went away. Perhaps this would help with the cherry eye. For Dozer it seemed to pop out when he was stressed out. We had just moved into a new home ect..and the poor pup was really freaking out and thats when the cherry eye first showed up. We popped his back in no prob and once we settle dinto our house and no more stress the cherry eye stopped. Perhaps some one with a little more knowledge will give their 2 cents but we haven't had issues popping Dozer's cherry eye back in..

Thanks....

I started doing that last night and I also gave him some Bendryl for the allergies which is helping him not scratch his face so much. I really want to avoid having go under again. I guess the key now with him is to keep his allergies under control.
