Good afternoon! I was wondering if any of your dogs are unable to tolerate yogurt? Everything I've read says that even dogs that are lactose intolerant can normally handle yogurt. I put in a teaspoon of lowfat vanilla yogurt with live cultures to my dog's kibble for every meal (breeder's suggestion for aiding in digestion)) but I'm wondering if perhaps he's lactose intolerant and that the yogurt may be causing his soft stools? I switched from the C. Natural chicken and rice dog kibble to the lamb and rice formula to see if that helps but I'm also wondering if maybe I should also eliminate the yogurt...?

Re: George can NOT have yogurt.
Thanks for the post! I notice that sometimes Tuffy gets pink and splotchy. He has been off yogurt for a few days. But then it goes away. So I'm not sure what's up with that! At what point do you give benadryl? When he's truly miserable?

Re: Allergy testing
Glad to hear that you found out what was going on with Spanky! At what point should I request an allergy report and what's involved in that? Can they test for grain allergy as well as lactose? I noticed sometimes that Tuffy's white muzzle gets pinky and splotchy. Perhaps that's a sign of allergies...?

I bought a 4oz jar on Dec 9 and I give it to 3 dogs, 2 of which eat twice as much as Audrey, and I still have some left in that jar. I'm getting low, but I figured the 4oz willlast me about 50 days.

Allergy testing
I just got the food allergy testing report (ACTT) for my Spanky which showed that he has a strong allergy to cow's milk. Could an allergy be a possibility?
George can NOT have yogurt.
I think for us, it's more of an allergy than a lactose thing, but if he has yogurt, he turns into a pink, scratching monster! I have to give him benadrly right away. His face and belly obviously become very very itchy and like a said, he turns bright pink!
Re: I am guessing it is the vanilla flavoring and not the yogurt

I am guessing it is the vanilla flavoring and not the yogurt its
I feed Sophia and my Doberman girl a tablespoon of yogurt in every meal and have done so for 4 years now. Not ever a problem, but I only use fat free pain yogurt. The one time I accidentally bought vanilla instead of plain was a gastric disaster!!!

Try substituting plan canned pumpkin for the yogurt...
and see if that firms him up.

my dogs have had yogurt daily for years
but I don't give them flavored yogurt, only plain, nonfat. Read the ingredients in the vanilla you are giving him, usually flavored yogurt is also sweetened. Could be the flavor/sweetener causing problems. I also give my dogs powdered probiotics, it seems to work well for them, no digestive issues at all.

My vet-who is bulldog knowledgable- says after a certain age in
longer absorb the lactose as their digestive system has developed into it's adult form. She advises good bacteria, but not dairy based, rather probiotics or other forms of beneficial bacteria.
