Hi Guys
We have a litter of 9 lovely Bulldog babies who are now 12 days old but we have a problem with 2 of them, both have a swollen toe on the end of one of their feet and it has split. We took them to the vet who is unable to tell us what they are because he has never seen it before. He has givent hem a shot of antibiotics for infection but does anyone else know what they are or have any advice?
Here are some pics:

I have seen this once before
with someones litter. We never were able to figure out what it wasand it didnt reallt respond to antibiotics either. The swelling would pop open and burst out a very thick puss. Someone said maybe puppy strangels which is a weird type of pyoderma or dermatitis that is beleive to be unresponsive to antibiotics alone. Could also be a form of herpes virus which is contagious. So if it were me, i would keep the two pups who have this seperated from thw others. And i would use a antibacterial soap to clean down mom after those to nurse or make contact with anything.
Since they are little you can try and hydrocortisone cream with the meds your already giving. if its strangels which usally requires steroids, then then the cream may help.
Hope things get better.

Thanks
advice much appreciated
Hope its some localized infection from foot-in-poop
or similar but in addition to the antibiotics given, I would be putting warm compresses on each toe (separate cloth, obviously, to not spread germs)several times a day to help it drain. If you can, then put some Neosporin ointment around the split and see if you can keep mama's tongue off it for at least 30mins.
