Hello I was mentioning this issue in a previous thread, but can't find that thread any longer so I thought I would create a new to get your advice.
I have a mostly black bully, named Bella - 14 months old.
Since she has turned 1, I've noticed a lot more redness on her face. It'a mainly around the wrinkle of her big nose. It's visible without lifting up the wrinkle and seems to get redder the rowdier she gets playing etc.
There is also a slight redness around her left eye, and it appears a tad swollen (this comes and goes)
I clean her wrinkle and face with cleaning pads, so I don't think it's a matter of not keeping it clean. Is this possibly just an allergy to something, or something else and if so what do you recommend.
She is due for shots in March and would like to wait until then to take her to the vet ideally.
It doesn't seem to bother her, but do wish it would go away. I have tried Benadryl etc. and it hasn't seemed to help really. I haven't made any switches of food etc. that I'm aware of during this time period either. It really has seemed to spring up since she turned 1.
I know bully's tend to always have some sort of skin blemish etc. going on but the less the better for my princess
Below are two pictures where you can see it..
well lets hope she continues to improve..
and she will and you will be fine..
keep at it
it is a continues job to keep the wrinkle and face clean
what a beautiful bulldog..
love the markings
on the next bag of California Natural....
they have just a lamb, rice and sunflower blend
it is great and very limited ingredients.
maybe try it next time
also comes in moist as well
Update
So, we took her in today and it turns out it's not a Staph infection. It's just irritation as a result of not keeping her face clean enough etc evidently.
We were given some drugs to help clear it up, and obviously just need to make sure we keep her cleaner in the future.
We I feel do a good, but obviously need to approve. I feel like a bad parent
Thanks for all the advice etc. hopefully we get it under control.
Re: the food your using......
Thanks for your input, I picked up some california natural and have on that. One thing I was curious about is that it does list barley as one of it's ingredients on the herring and sweet potatoe food.
Isn't that grain, or you're saying that some grain isn't bad, just not a ton?
I noticed it's the #2 ingridient on the bag.
I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow either way just to be safe.
Thanks
I have a local store that sells the California natural food you suggested, so I think I'll at least pick that up and switch her over to that to see if it helps.
Also, in light of the comments that it might be a staph infection, I'm going to take her in to the vet too, just to be safe.
the food your using......
is very high grain content....i would go no grain like evo or california natural herring and sweet potatoe....or as i do i feed raw....
i also say staph becasue of the way it looks like it spreading on the face....could of gotten it from drinking water from a plastic or glass water container...same as food should be high quality steel....
Re: What are you feeding her?
I'm feeding her royal canine bulldog food. I believe I'm doing a good job with her nose w
wrinkle. The redness is just around her nose wrinkle and near her one eye. At times I see a little on her cheek. The redness is much more visible as she gets playful etc
I'm thinking of having an allergy test performed, are those possible how are they run and are they worth it.
What are you feeding her?
The reason I ask, is that this is a pivital age. Allergies can often start around here. The other considerations are "puppy acne," which can last for a couple of years, not keeping the nose wrinkle "dry" enough (because of the winter weather, etc.). People have suggested Gold Bond Powder for the wrinkle, but if it's on the chin, too, there may be other things going on.
we switched her to Primal raw
I read that article I sent you a link to and we did put her on the food trial. We basically eliminated ALL grains, dairy, and limited her to one protein. We chose lamb because it was something she did not have a lot of. The first grain free food we fed her, TOTW salmon, made her throw up, and I was not liking rendered, preserved food for her, which is why we switched to raw. Read my rwa diet diaries, posted on this bord, for really detailed descriptions of trying to clear up her yeasty issies. Start with your vet, to make sure any underlying health issues, like a staph infection, are addressed. My vet was supportive of a raw diet, he just wanted me to make sure it was NOT meat only and had veggies included also.

Re: my girl got a red face around a year old
If you don't mind me asking what food did you switch her too and how did you know, did you allergy test her? I'm thinking its allergy related but I haven't dealt with staph infections before
my girl got a red face around a year old
especially around her eye, and her eye was swollen too. We switched her to a grain free diet and the redness went away. It takes a while sometimes for a food allergy to build up.
here is a great site about allergies:

hard to see, but is the folds wet and does it smell?
if it's wet and smell, wash with warm water, pat dry and apply desitin diaper rash original, don't get the one that is scented. it's a purple and white tube in the baby aisle. apply that for a few days and it should help.
If that doesn't help, then take to vet to see if it's a staph infection, then antibiotics should clear it up.

Re: i think.....
Sorry for the stupid question but what would that be from and is that something seriousness. I've had dogs before but never one with that.
i think.....
and its hard to see in the pictures but it looks like a staff infection.....i would call the vet and get some panalog...this is a antibotic cream from the vet you dont need a prescription...just place some on her face.....
thats what it looks like to me.....
