Bread for morning tummy problems?

I read on another site on the internet that some owners give their bullies a half of a piece of bread before bedtime to prevent morning bile throw up due to an empty tummy. Our 8 year old Spanky had this morning bile throw up problem often. I tried the bread trick and it seemed to work fine. He quit throwing up completely!

What do you think of the bread trick? Can that cause skin/fur problems? Our vet said feeding the bread was fine and was probably not a factor in his fur problems, but I discontinued feeding the bread, just in case. During the last month, after no bread, a round of antibiotics, hydroxyzine, and betagen spray his fur has grown back and he looks great, but he is throwing up bile in the morning again. Is this throwing up something that comes with age?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this topic. As a new bullie parent (we adopted Spanky 3 months ago), I sincerely appreciate all of your advice!

A better night

Thanks to all who responded. We gave Spanky a pepcid-ac last evening and a handful of kibble at bedtime and he slept through the whole night! He shows no signs of phlegm or bile throw-up this morning. Now we are ALL feeling better. Have a great day!

Re: Bread for morning tummy problems?

Having anything in his tummy will help. We give a small biscuit before bed to alleviate the empty tummy, a handful of kibble would work too. Though bread is great for absorption, it is not the greatest for a dogs diet, grains do not agree with alot of dogs. If he's allergic to grains it could cause allergy issues etc.,

bread

if you are feeding grain free, you are defeating the purpose using bread.  What I do for mine and I have two that do this, is I give them a 10mg pepcid at their am and pm meals, along iwth a half of a handful of food at bedtime.  I also give them frozen green beans for treats.  They get nothing else at all. Except maybe a piece of an apple now and then.  It works.
