If the pups aren't getting what they need from Mom, supplement them. The pups should only lose a little weight the first day or 2, then start gaining. The first week or so I weigh the pups 3-4 times in a 24 hour period, every feeding if I'm particularly concerned about a pup. The pups should double their birth weight by day 7. I also give Ben-e-bac according to the label at day 1, 3, 5, 7 and 14 or oftener if I think it necessary. You can use ProZyme mixed into their formula instead, but the pups benefit from the probiotics.

Doc Brown bottles and Esbilac Goats Milk Powder is what I have had luck with. Also be sure you get Bene Bac and give acccording to directions on the tube. Good luck with your litter.

I buy either the boxed Just Born or canned Esbilac to nurse pups with and cut it 1:1 with unflavored Pedilyte. If you have to supplement the pups for more than a few days, or it is a large litter, the Esbilac is available in powdered form and is cheaper than the pre-mixed variety. After the 1st week, if you still need to bottle feed, slowly decrease the ratio of Pedilyte to formula until you are using the formula straight. After 2 weeks you can thicken the formula with baby rice cereal to get the pups ready for gruel at 3-4 weeks of age. Some people use fresh or powdered goats milk for pups, I haven't tried that yet - no source for fresh goats milk.
Old time formula.....see message
You can get pasturized Meyer's Goat's Milk at the grocery store, Publix, etc.
1 quart goat's milk
1 egg yolk
1 pint active culture plain yogurt
10 drops pediatric multivitamins.
6 drops Lactaid
Place all in a blender and liquify well.
At two weeks you can add one small jar of baby veal (regular baby food in a jar).
I have used this formula for many years with great success.

I use goats milk
I get it fresh, pasturized at a farm in NH.
My Olivia is due around Monday. Expecting 6 puppies.
Hopefully we won't have to supplement but we'll have the goats milk on hand just in case.
Good luck,
Sue
