Bloody diarrhea?

I have a 1 year old baby who on Friday afternoon started with loose stools. We were out of town and by Friday evening he had full out diarrhea and I noticed some blood on his bottom. He was eating and drinking as normal and appeared to be feeling well. On Saturday morning I noticed blood in his stool and found a vet in the town where we were who would see him. They did a feacl test and found no parasites. Gave us a wormer pill just in case and also metronidazole 500 mg twice a day for 5 days. The diarrhea is better today and no blood however now that we are home he seems real lethargic. Could this be the medicine or should I be worried?

yes you can get parvo if vaccinated....

thats why so many people question the reason of vaccines almost every year,,,so yes they can even if they have been vaccintaed...so dont feel safe.....their have been reported two new strains of parvo that are just starting to come out....

did they test for corona or parvo???

i would bring a fecal to my reg vet and ask for them to run those test...it only takes a few minutes...and bloody stools are not good....it takes 5 to 7 days after exposure of these two horrible dieases to show up....so take a sample in asap....if their clear then its a good case of garbage gut....caused by stress of things being so exciting....

Thanks...

Thanks everyone for all of your help. Took my little man to see his vet today and all testing came back negative. Just gave him some fluids but everything checked out fine. Turns out he had a touch of colitis. Always feels better to hear everythings fine from your vet.

Possibly but small chance its parvo or corona viruses

Parvo has a very distinctive "sweet odor" to the feces and is unmistakable to a vet; Corona is sometimes vaccinated for and there is no specific treatment for it other than supportive care for the diarrhea/vomiting with fluids, rest, bland diet...it comes from ingesting feces of infected dogs so if this bully goes to public parks often there is a chance of contracting both these viruses. Most all US vets vaccinate for Parvo, but there are fewer vaccinating for Corona (I don't). Dogs that frequent public parks alot should be, I guess.

Metron aka Flagyl is what most vets would Rx, and thats good

He may well be lethargic from dehydration and that's one concern with diarrhea so you may need to make some "soup" out of his next 1-2 meals if he's not drinking much, or soak his kibble. I personally wouldn't worm him if there's nothing showing on the fecal exam, as it will cause him to poop more thru an already-irritated plumbing system.
