Toto is just over 7 mths, we think. His gums are bleeding and it looks like there are some pretty short teeth. Is he teething? Or could it be something else?

The metacam can affect platelet activity. Is the bleeding more like an ooze? I would watch and maybe give your vet a call in the AM if he's still bleeding tomorrow. Also, I would soak his kibble in warm water to allow it to soften to avoid any further irritation to the gums. Thank you so much for helping this little man!

i am giving him a glucosamine/hip vitamin type thing. he's been on it for 4 weeks.
he's a rescue who in the four weeks we've had him has been on cephalexan for 3 weeks, metacam for 4 weeks, and glucosamine/hip vitamins.
skin issues are now under control, now that i've swapped him to a new food.
poor toto, he's so sweet, but everyday brings another pain to his little soul!
his gums are bleeding, the teeth are pretty much through, but along the gum/tooth is blood. i'd say the teeth are out just a little, maybe 1/2 cm - just out.

A bit earlier (5-6 months), but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he's losing his baby teeth. You can wet a washrag and freeze it for him to chew on. This would also sooth his mouth. Are you giving any meds or supplements?

I was thinking ehrlichia
Ehrlichia can cause bleeding of the gums and under the skin. Another sign would be "bruising" on the belly.

pink gums...
They are pink... the bleeding has been during exercise, at the gum/tooth line. not a lot, but some bleeding. no tick contact, we live in the city.
were you thinking lyme's disease?

Are his gums pink?
And not pale or white? Has Toto been in any contact with ticks?

Teething usually happens...
