took rocky to the vet today, he has atopic dermatitis, he has been given an injection and some abs for the next 30 days, my Vet who I love would like me to put Rocky on a allergy medicine called atipica it is quite expensive to start - 200.00 for the first month and then the dose is decreased by half 100.00 and then depending how well rocky does he may only have a dose every other day or every 3 days??? has anybody else used this or heard of it. He is in really bad shape guys, his skin is splitting open with pus and just stinky, any advice would be greatly appreciated, at my end I dont know what to do for him anymore, I just want him healthy.
just curious...
what skin issues does Rocky have......?

I have heard of this
I just spoke with my vet tecj last week, i had three options. Allergy test for food only, allergy test for food/environment and the treatment plan you have. i was advised that the first dose would be $116.00 and then taper off after that. the treatment would alleviate any and all allergies for Josie for the rest of her life as long as she was taking the med. I am scheduling a visit with my vet to look at Josie and discuss the option that works best for her. I presume this is what you were advised as well? I can't recall the name of the med but the one you mentioned sounds familiar. My vet tech thought he food only test would be best but wanted me to know my options. let me know what you decide and the outcome, if you would. thanks T & J

Not our experience.....
The bulldog we are treating with cyclosporine has no anorexia. He eats very well and his health did not decline. The only thing I have noticed is that his coat looks lighter...but he's an older boy and may just be going gray.
It is always good to be reminded to research thoroughly and bring good questions to the vet. Thanks, Becky.

Agree with Penny
Atopica/cyclosporine helps manage the symptoms....but does not cure.
