Hi all,
Opal turned 9 in December and she's having quite a bit of arthritis pain.
My vet said simply to give her 2 buffered aspirin 3 times a day. She can tolerate it but it's not helping much.
She can't take gluocosomine because it's fish based and she's allergic to fish.
I'm looking for more of an anti-inflamatory and/or pain killer.
What do you use?
Sue & Opal
i use a liquid....
not pill...did not no it came in pill form....ck with your vet....i like a liquid better anyway and the dogs love the taste....
i love .....
metcam...it has worked wonders for my older rescues...their like puppies now...has no steroids...
its what i like and i use it....
Adequan absolutely! and there are other supplements that
can help such as boswellia and tumeric. Also ester C has been shown to help.
Last week my 10 y/o started a human NSAID
Talked in great length w/my vet about our options for my situation I elected to try this drug. We talked about Adequen and I would have to do the injections twice a week for 6 weeks and that would be tough on my dog because she is elderly and she doesn't want to be bothered. So the drug that we chose on the animal side is Meticam and on the human side it is Mobic (generic) Meloxicam at Walmart for $4 dollars for a months supply can't beat that. She is on week 2 of a 1/2 tab once a day my vet said to start her on a 1/4 of a tab for the first week and bump it up to a 1/2 the second week and decide after what works best for her.
I too had tried ascriptin made her worse and previcox made her agitated, pacing, panting rapid heartbeat so that was a no go. So far for my dog this is working quite well we don't have her doing steps any longer she has a portable ramp to go in and out of the house and into the car. Good luck its tough growing old but,I'm so thankful and blessed to have my gal now for ten years.
Adequan
I give Morgan Adequan for her HD and it works great. So far we don't have to use any pain meds.
How are the puppies? I would love to see some new pics, hint, hint.
Yes
Meloxicam is the generic NSAID for the brand name Mobic on the "human side" which cost $4 dollars at Walmart for 30 pills. Metacam is on the animal side knowing my vet she will always try to save her clients $$ whenever she can especially when it comes to drugs.
Judy is that the same thing DB is talking about above?
I like the $4 script option - Dixie takes Duramax as needed and it's really expensive - 7 pills (which she takes 1/2 pill) run me over $35 at the vet
