tired is an understatement. came off nights Monday for an emergency c section and have been up since! well I am sure you know how that goes. I got the math correct, it just seemed like such a minute amount so I needed to confer! i work in the ed and calculate meds all the time but never have given such an itsy bitsy amt of anything!

All that math! If your pups average or are close to 1 lb. each then each pup needs 5mg (5-10mg/LB) which is .1cc (5 divided by 50 = .1) You can give up to .2cc and stay within range (I was an NICU RN for 15 yrs.)

the bottle i have is from my work and is reconstituted and unopened with an expiration of 3/14/10 normally reconstituted does expire quickly but this is labeled as such. I am not sure if they use something to extend the life once reconstituted but that is the exp.date on the label.

hi I totally understand all that thank you! I have been a critical care nurse for 20 years and really just need the dosing. I calculated the 5-10 mg /lb and came up with such a small amt. the avg wt of these pups is 1 lb and the amox I have (new bottle) is 50 mg per ml/cc i calculated it to .31 mg /oz of body wt at the 5 mg per pound dose. .31 x 16 oz =4.96 mg or approx 1/10 of a ml which is a very small amt. close enough to 5 mg per lb but is this correct? I am very tired and just wany clarification! thank you!

exp. date on the powder means that is the date the powder should be rconstituted and used by. if not, it should be tossed after that date. Once reconstituted it is good for 14 days. Most orgainisms sensitive to amox require 10-14 days of treatment or "will come back" if med is stopped sooner. Usually meds are to be used "until gone" but in the case of a tiny pup dose is too small to use up the bottle. Therefore they should be treated for 10-14 days. After 14 days leftovers should be tossed.

Medication dosage is based on weight, not age. Amoxi-drops is 5-10mg/lb twice per day. I recommend The Pill Book Guide to Medication for Your Dog and Cat. You can get it from Amazon.com--inexpensive $10-$15.

if they were reconstituted as per instructions with packaging, the strength is 50mg per ml or cc, which means you need to dilute this to give it to a puppy. Also worth noting is that the recommended shelf life of liquid amoxi drops is 14 days so when you said you had some left over, I hope its not too old. Considering the $ value of a bulldog puppy, I would recommend you get some freshly diluted amoxi drops from your vet for these pups.
