allergic to cheese? dust? cats? WHAT?!

ok.. I am fit to be tied.
My poor little Stella.
I have switched her to raw.
She is getting chicken, beef, bones, organs, veggies, garlic.
And a daily scoop of cottage cheese, a boiled egg and sometimes canned salmon or tuna with carrots and garlic mixed in.

She seems just as itchy and red as she was on kibble, and her eyes have started gooping again.

Am I being impatient? How long does this take? She has been raw for about a week now.

Thanks in advance, here are some pics of her face so you can see what I am talking about:

I would take

the chicken and garlic out> Mason can't eat either and suggest getting testing done. good luck

i would take out...

the milk products and egg and garlic...keep your raw diet very very simple....after a month then i would add one at time those things back one a week....
the system will some times go thru a detox and you will see horrible skin, watery eyes, cysts on toes this last for about a month...till the body rids itself of all the chemicals from the kibble....thats why you want to keep your switch to raw as uncluttered with all the extras as you can...and then after a month the things would like to add
hope this helps....

Allergies

Spanky was tested last month and is allergic to:

beef
milk and all dairy
shellfish
barley
oats
potato

It has been a real challenge! They are all so different. Good luck with your Stella!

Thanks guys!

I am going to do as you say and eliminate everything but meat and bone.
I was giving her acidopholus, and an oil supplement.
I just read the label on the oil supplement bottle and it has WHEAT GERM OIL!!!
duh!

so I am just going to clean her right out for a month, and then slowly add other things.

I am not sure which veggies you are referring to, because I don't think we have the same things available here in Canada so I am just going to skip the veggies for now and then add other things when I feel she is ready.

Thanks again.

I would say

eliminate the dairy and canned food, for at least 6 weeks. We eliminated EVERYTHING from Audrey's diet, except for lamb, and the few veggies that were in the Primal. We were fortunate that her face stopped itching and her ears cleared up, so 4 weeks later we started adding back. If we give her ANY kind of processed food, like freeze dried beef with added vitamins, her face gets smelly again. If we give her cooked steak, she throws it up hours later. Any kind of corn product makes her intensely itchy, wheat slightly less but still itchy. Audrey seems to have a very sensitive stomach, and raw food is about the only thing she tolerates well. Cheese? Throws it up. Yogurt? I don't know, but am not willing to try. I don't think there are any benefits to it, and it isn't worth risking an itchy face or a vomiting episode. She DOES handle banans, dehydrated and regular, and apples. I don't think the veggies in the Primal are really benefitting her, but they aren't hurting her either. She had NO problems eating ground chicken quarters, or ground pork shoulder. So her sensitivity really seems to be any food not in it's raw state, or with preservitives added to it.

Hi Tiffany!

Everyone kept telling me about cottage cheese and yogurt to help George out with this and that....come to find out, he was allergic to DAIRY the whole time and we were only making it worse!

I hope you find some answers!

I highly recommend having tests done to find out

exactly what she is allergic to...at least the environmental tests. The food testing is controversial. Some vets don't have any faith in it. I know Dr. Jean Dodds is working on food allergy testing process that is supposed to be more accurate. She could be allergic to some veggies too. Hooch is allergic to squash, for example, which is common in people and animals who have ragweed allergies. He is allergic to MANY weeds, trees, grasses, dust mites, etc.
I know how frustrating it is. I empathize. Feel free to email me. eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6d%6f%63%65%6a%6f%40%63%66%61%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%6d%6f%63%65%6a%6f%40%63%66%61%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))

Some dogs are allergic to chicken

It would be hard to tell exactly what she is allergic to unless you do an elimination diet or allergy testing. I had Morgan tested and she is most allergic to dust mites.
