I had posted that my daughter's bulldog was diagnosed with a narrow trachea of which she died. She has a puppy from this girl who is 3 months old. Should she get her trachea scoped to prevent this from happening again. She is so worried that something might happen and wants to do her best now to prevent this. Dad and siblings have no breathing problems. Is this something they should be tested for and how should she go about it.
Thanks
Roanne
Yes
Let's hope all turns out well. She has no real breathing issues so I'm thinking she's fine. She is glad to have her to carry on in her mother's foot steps.
Re: Advice please
No advice but I will keep your daughter and her new baby in my prayers. I'd like to ask you if the pup you lost was the one your daughter was planing on showing-- she was beautiful.
Re: Advice please
There is no PREVENTION from a small trachea. This is contibuted to genetics. If you have it, you have it. Scoping will not prevent that from happening. No cure unfortunately. Since this is a puppy from the bitch that died of a small trachea, I would definately have her trachea xrayed and eval when she got older IMO.
have x rays taken....
to see if they have hypolastic treacheas... you can send in a x ray to ofa....but most vets are smart enough to know a small treachea....
wilson coughs phlegm now and then...i make sure he... coughs it all up....he has a hypolastic trechea...i worry more in humid weather than cold or hot....
the other thing is how bad are your allergies...i have to carry a epi pen becasue his throat will close very fast....i almost lost him once he had stopped breathing and it had taken me only 30 min to get to my vet......
apirated pneumonia is very common in this condition.....they can also over heat very quickly if they get to panting very fast....
you just have to use your best judgement...and be a little extra aware...and you will be ok....
always let a new vet no of this condition so they can take the proper precautions....
