8 day post partum bitch

she's digging at my carpet. any cause for concern? Our check up and stitch removal is tomorrow. 2 of the puppies have been very fussy latley as well. one of those, my biggest guy has a raw rear....trying to keep it very clean and moisturized with a little vaseline dab. chloe is not pooping them...which is the most frustrating thing EVER and if she would i think it would resolve this problem but its very uncomfortable for this guy and i wish i could do something to help him.........

totally agree!

I keep baby wipes for sensative skin and diaper ointment with new puppies!  They are wonderful!

Thanks,

I agree with Ela1ne and Helen...

Wash and dry carefully. Don't use Vaseline, rather use Diaper ointment. Vaseline will moisturize, but it actually traps bacteria in and around the area rather than keeping the area clean and that can cause further irritation and inflamation... Diaper cream will keep the little bottom clean.

I agree Ela1ne, I normally with new pups rinse them off daily(bu

water and a little dial soap then rinse well (butts only) dry well and apply desitin.

Maybe better than Vaseline would be diaper ointment...

if the other pups wouldn't lick it off...And if you're not sure you're getting him clean-down-to-the-skin, then run his little butt under some warm water and use a little mild soap on your hand to wash him...rinse him under warm water again, and towel dry well. Sometimes I have concerns about babywipes not getting down past fur to skin-level...and they can leave the area 'wet' so you need to blot his butt with some soft toweling. happy.gif

interesting article about breeding bitches & hormones, etc

in this last issue of The Bulldogger, pg 133. This vet talks about certain behaviors and their possible motivators. happy.gif
