4oz puppy-any suggestions on increasing it's chances of survival?

My Nikki had her litter of pups today and had 4 babydolls(3B/1G). 3 of the pups range in size from 9-10 oz, then we had one littlebit that weighed in at 4 oz. He seems very strong for so small a pup, he's easy to latch on. This is my plan, please advise if you think I can do anything difference to enhance his chances.
Feeding every 1 1/2 hours for about 20 minutes-since I am doing this for little man the others are also eating on this schedule. I just tube fed him 1cc(3/4 nurturall C and 1/4 pedialyte). I plan to tube feed him every other feeding but also let him nurse off of mom to get the colostrum and hopefully in the next few days he can gain a few ounces and get him to an acceptable weight. I try to keep an extra eye on them to make sure he is warm.
We've had 5 & 6 oz puppies before and they survive but this is probably the tiniest skinny bulldog puppy I've ever seen.
THANKS!!!
L

thank you Dawn!!(pix)

I haven't purchased the Alimentum yet as he does seem to be holding his own right now. I wish I had know about this formula my last litter....they were bottle fed from day 4 and at 4 weeks weighed 2 lbs each. They were pitiful. They wouldn't gain weight, when we increased their food they got diahrrea so we would back off and it would firm back up. There was 9 origionally and we managed to save 7. I kept wondering everytime we increased the feed(and I'm talking about minuscule amts) and they got diahrrea if we had an allergy to milk or something going on. Once I put them in the bowl(we stopped the Just Born almost immediately once they went in the bowl) and they started growing leaps and bounds and diahrrea stopped. If I need to buy the Alimentum I will be back in touch happy.gif))) Thanks again!!
Here's a pix of the baby dolls.......Achilles(Peanut) is at the back of the group-rear shot happy.gif), then counterclockwise we have Helen, Hector and Paris.
Thanks everyone for your help!!

Update on puppy

He is 2 days old now and still with us. He still weighs 4oz tho. The not gaining has me concerned. He seems very strong and nurses good, he's just 1/2 the size of his littermates. He is lacking a little hair on the feet and ears so he might be a tad underbaked.
I'll post pix as soon as a get a chance. Feeding every 1 1/2 hrs leaves me little time to take pix happy.gif)).
Thanks everyone who posted!!

shounds like premi,

keep feeding him, give him caro or nutrical. You might get some Similac Alimentum mix like on the bottle and feed every 2 hours.

Jen Jo told me about this when i had my premi babies. Helped so much and saved the last 2. We found out after we lost 4.

Re: 4oz puppy-any suggestions on increasing it's chances of surv

We had a four ounce puppy in a litter of 7. Vet brought them out and said she was strong and active. We called her Peanut and she did great. I'll post some pictures later.

tiny pup

I had a 4 oz pup in the 1st litter I ever bred. Like yours, it was strong and active. I am sure it will do well on the schedule and feed as you described but that schedule is going to kill you unless you have a helper. Most replacers suggest 15 cc for every 2 oz of body weight so a 4oz pup needs 30cc/day. I would slowly increase his feed and increase your interval to every 3 hrs--encouraging him to nurse on Mom. Just watch his weight, poops, and activity carefully making sure his tummy doesn't become over tight. Mine did fine and by the time I weaned had caught up to littermates. She turned out to be a BIG girl.
