Hi everyone,
I have been a lurker here for quite some time and boy is this site addicting. It is like myspace for bulldogs.
I have a question regarding the undershot jaw of the bulldog. Are their teeth suppposed to stick out? If someone could post a picture of their bullies jaw (without or with teeth showing) I would really appreciate it.
Once I figure out how I will post pictures of my 11 month old baby named Gus!
Thanks in advance!
Re conformation, the bottom small teeth showing
are considered okay but not the canines (longer teeth). At eleven months the jaw should be pretty much what you will see as an adult, with a very few exceptions. A few bloodlines do take a long time to 'mature' and you might check with the breeder to see what that history is, but I would guess that what you see now is what you will continue to see (teeth or not). Some youngsters, in the show ring, need a reminder to keep their faces "quiet" ie, bring the lips down, but you can't hold them there...they need to naturally cover the mouth. Watch sometimes, at ringside during a show, to see how handlers/exhibitors position their dogs re the face/head.
Winston - you bring new meaning to "hangdog expression"!
Is it 'cause you tied one on? lol

Here's one of Dolly...
Her teeth stick out all of the time which we think is cute. But I don't think show dogs are supposed to have their teeth out. And glad you came out of lurker mode. Now you can be addicted like the rest of us!
here's my guys
Winston's teeth only stick out sometimes...Like the photos, only about 1 in four has his teeth out.
Daisy on teh other hand, almost always as her sticking out...rare occasion when the are in.
Re: undershot jaw
I don't show but I do like the teeth sticking out but alas - nothing . . . .
Re: undershot jaw
Q's teeth don't show (although, I think that look is kinda cute!). I don't have a lot of close-ups of his face - he usually doesn't sit still enough...
It does make a good shelf for resting!!

teeth
should not stick out, especially not the canines.

Re: undershot jaw
Bubba-Lou's undershoots probably an inch and a half. He also has a spare tooth on the roof of his mouth, in it's own row, like a shark. I still think he is the cutest though!! His canines are usually hanging out too.
PS one day I will get a new picture of him, I promise!! There are millions on my camera, I just have to download them.
