Could be the food

My Edward went through this last year, little bumbs on his head and shoulders, then the hair fell out aroud the bumps.  We switched his food to a novel protien and carb, the Go Salmon and oatmeal. It took around 3-4 months to see the change but he really has a beautiful coat now. Tear stains are now our challenge, we think that may be seasonal allergies. Hope this helps

What kind of food do

What kind of food do you have her on? Is it Grain free and soy free? Are the bald spots growing back in? Is she itchy? There are so many things that can cause this, I am in the middle of my own baby getting bald spots on her back. It is a process of ruling out things. Did you recently wash her bedding? Clean the carpets?

Sounds like Bella's

She really hates it when I have to put on her cream, I think it hurts her. The steroid cream seems to settle them down and reduce the flare up some. We had one that was huge a inch in diameter, but the cream took it down overnite. Yes I find the bathing helps alot.  I am wonder about an staph allergy, but our Vet says we have to rule out all the other stuff first.

Bella was on RC as well, we

Bella was on RC as well, we had her on Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Salmon, but Vet wanted to do a Food test to rule out a food allergy. You could try some of the raw diets, they are recommended by more and more Vets for allergies. Too expensive for us, we have two Bullies. I'd try grain free and see what happens.

Daisy and Dooks Mommy's picture

I think I may try the science

I think I may try the science diet sensitive skin cuz I think the raw diet will e to expensive for me ut if I can find somthing soon I may have to do the raw diet

Bathing

I would never bath a dog in Dawn and every 3 days is way to often. You are destroying her natural oils to keep her coat healthy.

I would suggest bathing her in Equss medicated shampoo, or something similar.

Was she scraped for Demodex?

What kind of shot did the vet give her?

Did he scrap and test for Demodex? At her age that would be my first suspection.

Was her rabies shot given at the same time as her final shots?

Daisy and Dooks Mommy's picture

he didn't do anything

he didn't do anything yeah he gave her 2 shots he didn't tell me what they where ! her rabies and her last booster all at the same time he told me I was not baithing her enough so that's when I went to the three days cuz I was already doing once a week I usually use puppy shampoo for sencitive skin till some one told me to use the dawn and it seems to work !!

I highly suspect Demodex mange

She needs to go to the vet and be scraped for the mites. I have only had this in one bulldog and I used the oral ivermection. It takes 6 - 8 weeks to get the mites under control. She will need at least 2 follow-up scraps.

You want to boost her immune system with supplements. I used Missing Link or Sea Meal. Others use several different vitamins and I know Helen always used Pet Tabs.

It's not proven but many of us believe the final booster shot along with the rabies compromises the immune system causing the mites to get out of control. We do not give rabies shots until the puppy is well over 6 months, preferably closer to a year and definitely not with the final boosters. We advise all puppies buyers to hold off on the rabies shots. To bad your breeder did not suggest this.

Do a google search on Demodex Mange.

You may want to consult another vet since this one just wasted your money.

Food

IMO RC and Science Diet are both horrible foods. I would rather feed Purina One then either one of those foods. I understand Purina is coming out with a grain free food. So I would suggest if you are on a budget to look at you local Petco, PetsMart for a grain free brand with a protein as it's first ingredient.

I personally feed "Now" a grain free food made by Petcurean a Canadian company and Natures Variety raw patties. I love this kibble!  My sister is feeding "Halo" to Cleo and having great luck with it.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

thank u so much for all

thank u so much for all of ur help I do have one last question if she have those mites ur talking about wouldn't my other dog have them too ? I will find another vet because he really didn't help at all so I will find one that has experience with bullies I am to the point now I don't care what it costs I just want her better it doesn't seem to bother her but it bothers me !

Amber, I don't think demodex is contagious

I know it comes from having a compromised immune system. Kofi got it after she was spayed.

A few days ago someone mentioned liver for demodex. If you do a search, you will find that post. She tells her experience and where she got the suggestion.

Ask any question here. I've asked them all, and we have a great group of knowledgeable folks.

Demodex is not contagious

All dogs have the mites. They are useful to the system, it's just when the immune system is compromised the mites get out of control.

Bets of luck and keep use posted on the outcome and diagnosis.

Amber, I have never bathed Kofi that

often. She get's bathed when her nails need trimmed, and sometimes not that often.

You may want to do a search on bathing.

I also keep Vetericyn Hot Spot Spray on hand and spray it on when Kofi has any spots. It's used to treat of prevent viruses, fungi, spores and bacteria. If you do a search you will find more info on that.

I don't know if it would help demodex, but is good to keep on hand.

Is your vet knowledgeable  with bullies? I always try to research any meds that are given or prescribed. Some have had to change vets to find one more experienced in treating bullies.

Kofi is my first bulldog, so I am by no means an expert, but the support and advice I've gotten here has been so helpful.

Keep us posted, I know how hard it is to see our babies with problems.

Keep us posted.

Can you check the homepage to see

if there is a bully vet in your area? Or maybe you could make some phone calls to find one in the area. I wish I could be more help, but a qualified bully vet should be able to get to the heart of her problem.

Please let us know how she does.

It will be well worth your while

to take her to a bully vet. They are the most wonderful pets, but do require a little extra care. I feel as you do, I want to keep Kofi with me as long as I can and am very careful to make good choices.

BDW has helped me with her from the beginning.

Please let me know what you find out about Daisy. Kofi had demodex at five months, and I really worried about her. Daisy's problem looks unlike anything that I am familiar with.
