I found out tonight there is a tumor on her spleen that has ruptured and her abdomen is full of blood. The cancer has likely metasticized. She is clearly suffering and there is nothing they can do. I brought her home tonight so my kids could see her and say goodbye, but we will likely let her go to the bridge tomorrow. We are beyond devastated.
This has come on so quickly. A week ago she was completely fine. Late last week she didn't seem interested in her food, but she does that sometimes, so I didn't worry much. Then this weekend she just did not want to eat anything at all. I took her to the vet yesterday and the vet suspected it was this. But she had another vet do an ultrasound tonight to confirm her suspicions.

A suggestion . . .
first, we are sending lots of prayers.
Also, I lost my first Lhasa, who I had for almost 13 years, to cancer of the spleen. When she was diagnosed two months earlier, my vet had offered to remove her spleen. I deeply, deeply regret declining the offer. I am convinced she would have lived at least another six months, maybe a year. Thus, I suggest that you consider doing so if your vet thinks it may help. Good luck. I know all too well how difficult of a time this is for you and your family.

prayers to you & your family
for what you are facing
It may be benign!
Betty had a spleenectomy and it likely was benign, my vet said that they often are. She was 12 at the time of her surgery and recovered just fine. They can do without a spleen. She had a 4" tumor on it, and a few smaller ones that had bled out. But no mets. Usually I think it mets to the liver or lungs and she had a clear xray a few weeks ago. Hemangiosarcoma is very aggressive and it would likely have mets by now in Betty, so I think it was benign. I didn't bother with a biopsy because it wouldn't change anything. I just removed the spleen, figuring it would add length and quality to her life and she's fine. I hope this is an option for your lab.
Hang in there and don't give up hope. You will be in my prayers.
