Subj: Fw: Warning About Dog Treats From Costco ALERT!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !
Date: 5/3/2008 4:21:02 PM Pacific Standard
Time
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to let you know that one of our
volunteer families is going through a crisis
right now due to dog treats fed to one of their
dogs. The treats are Chicken Jerky Strips made
by Kingdom Pets and sold at Costco. The
packaging lists a distributor as being in Los
Angeles, CA, but it also says "Made in China."
The dog who ate the treats has been in the ICU
since Monday night. The dog went into kidney
failure and had to have her kidneys flushed
(dialysis). The vet told our volunteers that she
typically sees this happen when a dog or cat
drinks antifreeze, but the volunteers were able
to narrow down the cause to the above-referenced treats.
Hopefully the dog will be able to come home
later today. She will also have to be monitored
closely by the vet because her kidneys will not
be functioning at 100%. She will have to be on a
special diet and get blood work done every two months.
Please pass this along. I've heard similar
warnings in the past about not feeding food or
treats to your pets that are made in China. This
packaging sounds pretty misleading though, since
it lists the distributor as being in Los Angeles.
Take care and keep your pets safe!

OMG!!
I always read packaging and this post led me to read (again) chicken jerky treats I bought from the feed store the other day. It said Los Angeles but then it said made in china. I don't know how I missed this in the store. There were made by dogswell but my dogs are fine so I'm not saying there the same but China, yuck! I never buy food items made in China.
That's so scary
Thanks for the warning.

Thanks Elaine
for sharing that, I've already passed it along to my fellow dog lovers

This came from someone who knows the dog..
It's from a person in one of my classes. She knows the dog and it's owner. I have looked at and thought about buying those chicken jerky strips at Costco. Sounds like the "made in China" is very small print. I'll have to check it out next time I'm there.
Hopefully, they will recall them if it's more than just the one dog.
I verified this at Snopes.com
Not that I doubted you, but sometimes these stories are perpetuated on the internet without being verified...article says its especially dangerous to small dogs, but I would think that any dog is exposed to danger with these.
