REMEMBER, Cell phone number's go public this month, ALL cellphone #'s are being released to telemarketing companies & you will start to receive sales call's!
You will be charged for these call's.
~ To prevent this call #888-382-1222 *FROM YOUR CELLPHONE!*
It's the National Do Not Call List.
It blocks your # for 5 YEARS. You MUST call from the cell # you want blocked. You CANNOT call from a different #.
Pass it along, please.
Thanks Stacie
I just wish there was a Do Not Fax registry. I get sooooo many junk faxes. They, more than any printing I do for my own projects, use up the very expensive ink of my printer.

my question is whether the phone number itself is also a scam, or is it the legit phone number for the National Do Not Call Registry? Because if the phone number too is a scam, then it's a double whammy with even worse consequences for those who call that number and then give the person on the other end their cell phone number.

I'm just wondering if it's a phishing number, like the no. for the phony Do Not Fax registry, but that is used to get people's cell phone numbers.

NOT true..
this has been floating around the internet for years.
Per the FCC the truth about cell phones and the DNC Registry is:
Contrary to the e-mail, cell phone numbers are NOT being released to telemarketers, and you will NOT soon be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone.
There is NO deadline by which you must register your cell phone number on the Registry.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent.
The national associations representing telemarketers have stated that their clients do not intend to start calling consumers cell phones.
There is only ONE DNC Registry. There is no separate registry for cell phones.
The DNC Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. You must call from the phone number that you want to register. If you register online, you must respond to a confirmation e-mail.
While the telecommunications industry has been discussing the possibility of creating a wireless 411 directory, according to the FCC, even if a wireless 411 directory is established, most telemarketing calls to cell phones would still be illegal, regardless of whether the number is listed on the federal governments National Do Not Call Registry.
In addition, according to the industry:
Your number would not be included in a wireless 411 directory unless you wanted it to be (i.e., you will have to opt-in); and
The wireless 411 directory would not be available in a printed, electronic, or Internet list for telemarketers. In other words, a list of numbers on the wireless 411 directory would not be made available to telemarketers.

I just let you know. YW
Be careful that it's not a scam . . .
Not too long ago I researched whether there was a Do Not Fax list. I found out that there was, but it was a scam. It was just a way for a company that sends out junk faxes to get even more fax numbers to send junk to.
I have no idea if the same applies for cell phone numbers, tho.
If you do find out that the Do Not Call registry for cell phones is legit, let us know. Thanks.

Actually, the # is correct
You can go tohttp://www.donotcall.gov to sign up online, or dial 1-888-382-1222 to be added by phone.
It doesn't hurt to add your number, home or cell, to the registry. A legit business that does telemarketing is required to scrub their list against the registry. There is a time lag between the time your number is added & the time they may not contact you - I can't remember but I think it's 2-3 months.
Also, any company that calls you is required by law to provide you with a copy of their do not call policy and to add your number to their own DNC list.
The bad news is that there are a lot of unscrupulous companies that don't play by the rules, they spoof caller ID numbers and make it very hard to track down the responsible company. One thing that really helps to cut down on this is to make your number unlisted.
Drop me a line if you have any other questions -- I don't check in here every day, but I dealt with this for work and either know or can quickly gather much of the relevant info.
