one time while running at our local marina, i stopped after getting my run in and decided to watch the geese. they were coming out of the water up the beach and the runt had a bad foot. well his brothers and sisters were picking on him and the mother and father were up the beach a few steps. momma goose turned around, scolded her bad babies, (they had to lower their heads down on the sand), and mamma goose walked up the beach with her little runt who had a gimp. the others were then summoned by the father after the mom got her and her runt up to where dad was. true story. very socially structured and fierce protectors of their young. tamsen

They are interesting birds to watch and actually most of this flock will leave and we'll be left with just a few pairs. We always watch to see how many babies hatch out later & root for them to make it. There are a lot of predators around so the babies are always in danger. I enjoyed reading your comments.

Too many deposits!
After they hatch their babies they all walk around for a while until the babies can fly. One parent is in front & the other at the end with all their babies in between. I think they are very good parents.

they mate for life so I have a soft spot them, i would hate to have my loved one shot out from underneath me from a hunter. typically when they loose one of the mates, the other will mourn the body for days and then when they finally do migrate they stop on each leg of the flight where the mate passed away. it is as if they are still looking for the one that died. but that is me being a big softie, they poop a lot but it fertalizes the lawns....just some info. That's correct!
We had ducks years ago when our kids were little & the geese ran them off the pond. They were mature adult ducks so the geese did not kill them but they were very territorial & NO ducks were allowed!

Dolly loves to roll in goose poop! YUCK! We have her fenced off so she can't get to the pond but every once in a while when we're out of the immediate backyard she finds some icky pooh to rub all around in! LOL

talk about vicious. They just rip the necks open. Geese are beautiful from a distance but extremely gross close up, at least if they get near your porch and then poop all over it.

C'mon Spring!
I'm ready for Spring too!

They seem to stay here through the Winter...
I feel sorry for them when it's so cold & snowy. It must be hard for them to survive.

Many geese =
lots of geese poop!
They are beautiful, though. We have them in the lake near my house. When they all decide to cross the street it's so funny to watch them walk.

Well, if they'd fly through her hoop...
I'd be pretty impressed! Actually, most of them will leave when mating season begins. Then we'll have a few pairs and not hundreds, thank goodness!

I used to think that...
Now with so many of them, they don't look as pretty to me!

that's a LOT of geese
which bring a LOT of nasty geese poos...
