I was 10yrs old and I still remember this day... This is in Phoenix Adminzona.

It's a number stuck in the Valley's consciousness, left there 15 years ago today when the temperature at Sky Harbor International Airport set an all-time record, one that still stands, of 122 degrees.
Most long-time residents remember the day well. You may have heard from a few this past week, when the mercury hit 114: "You think it's hot now? Lemme tell you . . . " advertisement
Jeff Foland was working at the airport that day, refueling a Beechcraft airplane at the old executive terminal. He was wearing cloth gloves with a special rubber covering that were supposed to protect his hands from the fuel.
"It was so hot on the wing, my gloves started to melt," said Foland, of Peoria. "It made them like gum. I could barely hold onto the nozzle. And then the soles on my tennis shoes started melting."
The heat forced airlines to delay or cancel 22 flights. Two-thirds of Phoenix Transit's bus fleet broke down. Four people died and dozens of others were hospitalized.
Five years later, the temperature on a July afternoon hit 121 degrees, but we've never come that close to 122 since.
If you weren't here then, by the way, and want to get a quick feel for what it was like, pull your car out of the garage at midday, when the outside temperature is about 100 degrees. Let it sit for six or seven minutes, then climb in.
Just get out in a hurry.

well thankfully it doesnt reach that hot often.. Its usally 110-
during the summer, but its a cool 103 today. Whoo Hoo. LOL
Wow - I thought the Australian Outback was HOT at 112 degrees!
It was HORRIBLE heat there. But 122 sounds insane!

I was in court that day to testify for my brother for an
accident that he was in. I had aJeep pickup that was black and didn't have air since I got it right before I moved here from Michigan. It was soooooo hot that the stereo wouldn't turn on.
My mom checked us all into the point hilton that day. With as
many kids that she had she wasnt taking any chances. We didnt mind they have a gret pool. LOL
wow!! we hit 101 yesterday
and I thought that was hot!! Guess not!!

I remember that day so well...
it was actually scary thinking what could happen if the air went off or we had a massive power failure. When they closed down sky harbor, I was ready to leave town.

I saw something on a news blurb, regarding the way heat rises so quickly inside a car. The camera man, a newscsster and an EMS person were in the car. I think that within 10 min the car temo had risen 20 degrees and the newscasters body temp was over 100 .. they were all sweatign profusely. At this point the camera man couldn't take i and had to go
outside to recover. It was only a few moinuted later that the newscaster had to call it quits. It was warning to parents aboutleaving children and dogs in cars. They advised to always put somethign you need in the backseat so that you can't just jump out of your car and forget your passeneger.
