haven't been around much - was sick and then went on a short vacation out east.

Had the famous Pete and Elda's pizza and I have to admit it was great - this coming from a deep dish girl. May be worth a trip back just for the pizza

Funny story about Lou's...
Over 20 years ago I went to Chicago for the first time and ate there. Being from CA, I was blown away. I work for Fedex and so I asked them if they could freeze a small and Fedex it to me at my expense. When I got back to work in CA I shared it with coworkers when it arrived. They ALL loved it so much, the entire ramp (about 30 of us) would get pizzas from that restaurant on a regular basis for a discount, we were probably their only "regulars" 2000 miles a way.

We have a new pizza place near New Orleans with great think slic
it's called Brooklyn Pizzeria. It is super delicious and the slices are very soft, so it's easy to fold them if you like it that way.

I've never had Lou's pizza
My dad lives half a block from Giordano's and I've had Gino's and Uno's. Is Lou's in the City or the suburbs? I may have to go next time I'm in Chicago.

it was thin crust but
it was one of the best thin crusts I have ever had. I am still a Lou's deep dish snob cuz that what we do best here, which you know

better than uno's, gino's east and lou malnati's?
no way... great pix
I know :)
I thought about you. Sacred ground. haha. I'll ask Cathy to post the pix she has of him playing there. I wanted to take a pic of the Sayreville exit sign but we couldn't pull over on the hwy. They were on the left coast last weekend doing shows but if they weren't, I was gonna have Jenn take me to stalk him. She lives a few minutes from him.
I have a friend that is going to Vegas and gets a backstage pass and a meet and greet with him in March I think. Her niece does PR for one of the hotels. I wanna go with.

Was it better than Giordano's pizza?
I don't if that's possible, but if it is, I'm going to have to try some some day.

I should be going thru there
around noon on Fri 4/2. I'm planning to leave NJ late morning on 4/1 and get to Seattle sometime on 4/4. We're not driving straight through--we're going to stop at night so the dog can get a break from the car.
this would be a fun thing to do for you
for people to give their favorite pizza place along the route from NJ to WA. That's gonna be a long haul clear across the country.
If you come thru Chicago, it has to be either Lou Malnatis or Ginos East. No one makes deep dish like Chicago and those are the best. Ginos has a great buttercrust but I think Lou's has a better overall taste. If it's gonna be Ginos, make sure you have a thick Sharpie cuz everyone writes their names and other crap all over the restaurant walls and tables. It's not only allowed, it's expected, if you can find a spot
If you want to be quirky, Chicago Pizza and Ovengrinders has pizza pot pies - very unique.
If you do stop in Chicago, let me know in advance and if it's on one of my days off, I'll meet you.

I have been in California for over 20 years...
and I still haven't found a pizza that compares with Chicago pizza. I actually prefer thin crust pizza, because you get more pizza stuff, not just crust, but I still can't find a really good thin crust pizza. There are places that claim to be New York or Chicago style pizza, but they just aren't the same.

I've never had real New York pizza...
but if you are going through Chicago, you have to stop for pizza!

So, where's the best pizza anywhere?
I'm going to be driving from Newark to Seattle in about a month and my husband keeps telling me I have to take time out to stop in Chicago for pizza.....
i think both
we got one in geneva a few years ago. mmm i'm having a craving now.
