Blakely - that was NOT her name then - was being advertised as a breeder girl in the local newspaper. Shannan went to see her & knew she was more than she could take on at the time, but knew that she had to find someone to help her. Shannan saw these idiots feed her molded bread & discarded banana peels....
April 17, 2007...I drove from my job, near Birmingham, AL to meet Shannan in Meridian, MS. She had driven from her home(Several hundred miles away) to Meridian to meet me with this sweet girl. My vet graciously waited past his normal business hours to see this girl when I got there with her. She had a broken jaw that was never repaired, an ugly scar on her head from some crazy surgery they did to remove her nose rope, and she was heartworm positive. She had entropion surgery on both eyes, she had many mammary tumors removed(all were benign) and loved living life up until her very last few days.
She had tumors on her heart that had began to rupture and fill the pericardial(SP) sack with blood. Even up until the very end, she had kisses for us all... February 13, 2010.
This is the first picture that I took of Blakely... this is AFTER Shannan had cleaned her eyes & gave her a bath.
Her first week at my house... she didn't know how to act getting to be in the house much less being able to be on the furniture.
She loved this bed! This was the first place she went when we came home from her first round of heartworm treatment.
FINALLY HEALTHY!!!! Our first camping trip with her. Boy, did she love to sit out by the water. (State park rules that she had to be leashed at all times.)
Here she is in Emily's car - she loved to go for rides with her. Just look at the joy on that face!
Summer of 2008 - She's here in the pool with Brutus - they were big buddies. He is still walking around the house looking for his friend.
I don't have many recent pictures of her - as her eye sight began to fail more & more, she didn't like to have her picture taken. The flash would scare her half to death... I do have some cell phone pics that I will try to get downloaded and share one day soon.
We loved this girl so... and miss her so very much
Thank you all so much for letting me share her with you.

Sweet Blakely
I remember the day you got her as clearly as if it was yesterday. Her story broke my heart then and I still want to cry when I hear it today. But I also remember how thrilled I was to see her smunched down on a comfy bed and being the queen of the campsite with her new family.
It's people like you who give me faith in humankind on days when I have my doubhts.
Hugs to you and all your family!
What an amazing story, she is such a lucky girl her last years w

It is my hope that her story
would inspire someone to rescue/adopt. I have a longing myself for a puppy, but also know that I will adopt again. They bring the greatest joys.
My Bruno is a rescue, too, and it is so rewarding to see the changes that they go through. Blakely taught me a lot in her short time with me. I'll never forget her.
very touching story...............
and thank you for sharing.
WOW!
Truly an inspiring story....missed dearly I'm sure. RIP Blakely

Lisa,
I always felt like she belonged to everyone here... you all loved her so much. I was just the one lucky enough to get to share my home with her.
Brutus is getting better, but he will absolutely break your heart
It was the wonderful people here at BDW
who encouraged me to do what I knew in my heart I had to do... and it was the wonderful outpouring of love from people like YOU who held me up during the hard times
Much love, my Friend!
Thanks so much, Christie...
You guys have been so wonderful.
I bet she and Miss Tillie are up at the Bridge having a grand ol' time
Thank you, Carol.
Our house just isn't the same...
Thank you, Kathy....
She certainly was our Angel, that's for sure.
Blakely
OhTara! That brought tears to my eyes! She was so beautiful and her face had so much personality! I love the picture of her sitting by the lake. She looks so happy (and like she is just waiting for something good to happen.)
thanks for sharing the pictures and her story.
Before I joined this board, I could never imagine doing rescue. Always thought I would start with a puppy, but now, I can see rescue in my future :0)
and it's because of stories like Blakely's!

She was such a special girl and she caught all of our hearts right from the beginning. You are and will forever be her angel on earth. I love that picture of her and Brutus, it makes me sad to hear of him searching for her. (((hugs)))

Aw, Blakely.....
That picture out by the water has always been favorite picture of Blakely, healthy, happy, and loving life...
Tara, I am so sorry, Blakely was one special girl. You took her from a life unfathomable, and gave her one full of warmth, care, and love with no bounds. I'm thinking of you...
Give Brutus some big hugs from us
