It all started with the movie, "Something's Gotta Give." That was the kitchen I copied. I had the worst time getting the contractor and cabinet maker to listen to me. They would ask about hinges, inset, door style, corbels, trim, handles, paint, glass,etc... and I would say, "Watch the movie. I want it just like the movie kitchen!" Honestly, I thought about getting a t-shirt made that said "Make it like the movie!" I even bought copies of the movie for the architect, contractor, and cabinet maker.

It isn't an exact copy, but it's close. Hood over range and island are different and layout couldn't be same without ripping out walls. I had to actually make the template for the corbels because the cabinet maker couldn't get it right. Even then, the contractor took it upon himself to change the size and placement of the corbels. They had to be remade and moved. Lots of blood sweat and tears went into that kitchen to get it how I wanted it. Of course, in the end the contractor took all the credit for how it turned out. If I never see him again it will be too soon.

My guest house contractor is a dream. He listens and I love him!

can't imagine why the contractor cares one way or the other about it, he's not moving in. When we had an addition put in our house I wanted the walls painted orange. The contractor looked at me like I was crazy! He said, Um what color orange? I told him go to the grocery store and get an orange. That color. The whole time he was painting the room he said he NEVER painted a room this color before. Very shortly after I saw orange rooms all over decorating magazines. I felt like calling him and just saying "HA! No orange huh!!"
