Bulldogs have so much love to give – and so do you, that’s why you’re a proud Bully parent! And part of showing your love is to make sure that your dog is well-groomed and healthy. Whether you have just welcomed your new Bulldog puppy home or you are an experienced Bulldog pet parent, the following tips will keep you on schedule for providing everyday care for your dog.
· Food, Water and Treats – Depending on the age, weight and health condition of your dog, you will want to provide the recommended serving size that is best suited for your Bulldog. Always provide fresh water and allow your dog to have easy access to it all times. Choose to serve your Bulldog healthy treats that will help him or her maintain a healthy weight and prevent health issues related to weight gain.
· A Place to Call Home – Your Bulldog most-likely behaves like the King or Queen of your home, so make sure you provide him or her with a soft bed and a crate that they know is there’s alone. There are times when your Bulldog will want to rest in his or her private bed.
· Grooming – Keep your Bulldog’s ears and eyes clean, plus nail clipping on a regular basis. The coat of your Bulldog should be brushed on a weekly basis and bathing is only required on an as needed basis.
· Exercise – Some dog owners believe Bulldogs don’t need exercise. This is not true. Bulldogs need exercise such as a daily walk to maintain a well-balanced healthy life. Begin taking your dog for a short walk and then build up the distance. Avoid taking your Bulldog for a walk during the hottest part of a summer day or immediately after he or she has eaten.
· Dental Care – Bulldogs are known to develop bad breath as they age. This can be prevented by taking care of your Bulldogs teeth by providing regular brushings to remove tartar and plaque buildup. Brushing your dog’s teeth is something that you will want to begin doing when he or she is a puppy in order for them to get use to the procedure.
· Prevent Heatstroke – Bulldogs are prone to becoming over heated easily. Keep your dog indoors during the harsh summer days as much as possible. A quick walk outdoors early in the morning or very late in the evening is best. Never leave your Bulldog in a parked car. The heat inside the car can reach dangerous temperatures quickly and cause death to your dog.
Daily care for your Bulldog is quick and easy. Keep grooming sessions scheduled on a regular basis. You can choose to be the one to care for your Bulldog’s grooming needs or visit a professional groomer. Keep your dog’s diet healthy and on target with his or her growth rate. Always exercise your Bulldog, but don’t do too much. If you are concerned about the amount of exercise your Bulldog should have, consult with the veterinarian. The answer will be determined by your dog’s health status. Provide daily care for your Bulldog and help him or her live a healthy and happy life.
