i just read your response to connie & mason. i have a question about the prolapse part. when you say it's a hormonal thing & not a genetic defect, does this mean they can "grow out of it"? my cooper is almost 10 months old & we've been dealing with a urethral prolapse for a couple months now. it did bleed at first, i took him to the vet & got some antibiotics to make sure he didn't get infected. unfortunately, i live in a small town & there isn't a bulldog vet near me & my vet honestly told me she's never seen it before so she didn't know what to do. i read alot on this forum & got some neo senephrine spray & got it to go back in. i watch it very closely now (i have a female bully too, so cooper gets excited), & it still "pops out" sometimes. it doesn't affect his urinating at all. i "roll" it back in as soon as i see it, but i was just wondering if he'll eventually have to have surgery on it or is it possible to "grow out of it"? thanks in advance for any help or advise!
I have seen it several times in
go away on it's own with out any surgical correction.
Some vets are scalple happy

I was told that the prolapse
will always be there for the remainder of the dogs life. It may not bleed anymore but it will always be there as it just doesn't go away. It does go in so not so exposed but its still there I was told it will never go away completely. Good to know.
FYI - I know that a prolapse is not a breed related issue and don't recall saying it was. I just listed it as one of the health issues my dog has. A reproduction specialist in Barrie said this will not go away but will not be as noticable.

i'm so glad to
hear that! i'm just so scared that he'll have to have surgery. my female is spayed, but he just gets excited if she moves (she's 7 1/2 & sleeps alot). he only bled in the very beginning, before i took him to the vet. he hasn't for a long time now, so i'm hoping he'll grow out of it soon. thanks!

your doing what i would and have done
he should grow out of it, if your girl is intact he might get worse during her season. It can also start bleeding, and that is MESSY. When your girl goes in season, put vic's vapor rub on his nose a few times a day to help him with the smell, and also light some smelly candles to help cover the smell. KEEP HIM AWAY from her will help too.
