I forgot a zero on that 50mcg..actualy a 12 hour dose on a 50 pond dog would be 500mcg every 12 hours..

are on levothyroxine and they are doing really well.  My Dallas was terribly overweight and now he is in perfect shape.  He has more energy, his coat is better, etc.  Angel is also a little spunkier, she is 9 1/2  and if you look at her you'd never guess that!!!!

200 micrograms is not 2miligrams but 0.2mg
the dog would be getting way too much if he was getting 2mg x 2 that would be 4mg a dose..way too high..

levothyroxine dosage when used with dogs is normally started at a dose higher than the reccomended dose to get started.usually and then rechecked at 4-8 weeks..and increased if still low or decreased if levels are too high or kept the same if WNL. The reccomended dosage is 10mcg per pound..so a 50 pound dog would be getting 50mcg every 12 hours which woukd be a totally daily dose of 100mcg..but since they need to start at a high dose it would be doubled that which is what your getting-
just make sure you recheck in 4-6 weeks!

and that dose was 0.4 mg. I myself take Synthroid, 112 mcg per day and I weigh 129 pounds, but I have no thyroid (thyca). Watch for symptoms of hyperthyroid such as nervousness, hairloss, etc. It usually takes a few weeks for thyroid meds to kick in.

my vet prescribes Soloxine. Over the years, we have had 5 dogs with hypothyroid, all were given Soloxine of varying dosages.
