Stella's painful skin outbreak

Stella has a massive outbreak on her back of scabby sores. She's had this before during her life and it's usually been taken care of by a few weeks of antibiotics.

I took her to the vet's almost two weeks ago, and she has been on Calavaseptin (?) antibiotics plus a medicated shampoo, which I have given her once a week. My concern is this.

The meds are not working. Unlike in the past, the sores seem to be really bothering her. She twitches when I touch her back and keeps trying to scratch them. They also smell "funny". I think this may be coming from the shampoo but I'm not sure. With other outbreaks, I could just pick the scabs off and put ointment on them. This time, they are way too sore for that.

I have a call in to the vet but she's not in until tomorrow, and I've booked a tentative appointment for Monday.

Any suggestions? I feel bad for my girl sad.gif She's not exhibiting any signs of real distress, and her appetite is fine. But they clearly hurt.

Thanks!

Epson Salt..... LOL everyone is going to get tired

of me saying that.... Seems like my one problem bitch has had most of what other bullies have had on this board and Epson Salt works every single time.........when it was confirmed staph we used a month of Cephlexin however after a month of antibiotics she was off for two weeks and she starting getting a few scabby bumps again with the twitching etc when you touched her so I started with the Epson Salt baths... and Thank God it cleared her right up and now she is happy as a clam and her skin is beautiful... I only bath her once every other week in Epson Salt and nothing else......

here is a video of Honey playing with her favorite rug... funny!!!

Blakely gets sores

like that sometimes. Vet treats as staph.
Cephalexin & Ketaconazole...an antibiotic and an antifungal.

shampoo

My Mr. Higgins has had these itchy sores that scab over. Antibiotics did nothing. His prescribed shampoo called "Sebulux". Not sure which one you have, but this shampoo really made a huge difference to his comfort, and the scabby sores cleared up. My vet wanted me to initially bath him 3x a week in the beginning. Just FYI. Best of luck. I know how hard it is to see them uncomfortable.

my vet suggested this

My one bulldog was hit by a car but is fine now. a 14 year old hit her who was not supposed to dive. long story short..there is a now a 6 foot fenced in yard. Bella jumped the 4 foot one. the driver was also charged

anyhow she had lots of leasions that had to heal.
the vet suggested to put on warm wash cloths.
they help to keep the sores moist so they do not hurt as much
it worked out great.
they healed in time too

I would get her on new meds and not wait till Monday.

IMO. Ff they aren't working by now, then it's not the drug of choice. Move on to something new.

You could give her Benadryl to relieve the itch for a day or two until they are under control. could she be allergic to something she is eating?
