The allergy testing, that is. Michelle with Hooch had it done. Al Botarri has also had a panel done. I think if you do a search for "allergy panel" or "allergy testing", you'll probably come up with a lot of posts. When you talk about the protein in the fish food, were you concerned it was too high or too low? Because she did well on it for her foster Mom (and, bless you for giving her a forever home!!), I wouldn't think the fish caps are causing the issues (although, dogs can develope allergies to stuff they did well on for years. Fun, huh?).

Josie was a rescue with huge mange issues and really bad feet. her foster mom had her on NB fish and SP, which she did okay on but looking at protein levels i switched her gradually over to NB venison & SP. she seemed to do really well on that but still had some issues with staph on her back. so got some A/B from her bully vet, and some pyoben shampoo and i added green beans to her meals as well as plain yogurt & fish oil. after her round of A/B she started the itchy scratchy in a couple of places on her back and her feet got real yeasty (frito feet). so now i am torn between the fish capsules causing the issue or her food needs to change. have you had an allergies test done on any of your 4 wheelers? I have heard others on here mention it but can't recall who specifically. Thanks for the info. T & J

Is called TotalBiotics by Ultra Pet. It's a powder, and I put a tiny scoop on their moistened food. If you want to add bulk without calories, consider putting green beans in her kibble. I used the cut frozen beans that I nuked for 20 seconds when I had my girl on a diet. You could also go with the low salt canned. As for fiber, pumpkin may help. You can try pure canned pumpkin (no additives or spices). Better dog foods are easier to digest and absorb, so the dog will often have less volume and poo less frequently.

the venison had more protein and the fish seemed to make her poop alot, like 4-5 times a day. so the venison firmed up her lincoln logs and decreased the average pile to 3 a day. she just always seems hungry and that is another concern with the NB venison & SP. since she was a puppymill mom and ran wild for awhile, i can understand the food insecurity, i just want her to have the best shot at finally being healthy. kind of a crap shoot at times. thanks again for the info. I feed him Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. He doesn't do well on grains, he's allergic to chicken, beef, rabbit, duck (etc etc etc... lol). Fish is the only thing that seems to agree with him. He also can't handle straight potato - he does better on sweet potato/potato combo. If Nature's Variety Instinct made a single protein fish formula, I would feed that to him in a heartbeat (no potatoes or grains). It has tapioca - the one thing that dogs don't seem to have an allergic reaction to. I cut up raw fish to mix with his evening meal (sushi!), give him probiotics, joint supplement, and fish oil caps. My lab did really well on Life's Abundance (great food, but it has chicken and barley). It was the only food that gave him firm poops. My rottie has lupus, so I'm pretty careful with her diet, too. She gets the NV Instinct with raw medallions. She looks and acts half her age (she's 9 1/2). TMI?? Hee hee!

Thank you very much for all your help. I have been looking in to probiotics as well. I got my bully kibby from the spca in jan and she was seriously overweight (about 15 pounds too much).. so she was put on rc perscription high fiber kibble (w/a little wellness wet)... now that she has lost all this weight, i am trying to find a food with a little more fiber in it because i miss her healthy feeling solid 3 poos a day from that food. All these new grainless, alergy free foods seem to not have much fiber in them... her poos have been reduced to maybe once a day, twice only sometimes... and her booty seems much itchier because the quality of poo is not as solid. She never had such an itchy bunny tail when she was on that food, but i suspect that the wheat in there kept giving her an ongoing ear infection. I would really like to get her poo a little firmer and more regular. As for my other 12 year old mix, she gets acid reflux if we don't feed her 4x times a day, but i was hoping that the probiotics might help her tummy as well. I don't mind feeding her that many times but I do hear her tummy growling quite a bit sometimes so i wonder what is going on...
anyways, i asked the dr. about probiotics and she kinda looked at me like was crazy. What brand do you use? is it really worth it? or do you know of any kind of allergy free fiber treats or supplements? thanks!
