Recurring ear infections

Morgan has been battling ear infections for a couple of years now. We will be going to the Vet tomorrow to discuss our options. Currently she has an ear infection and a hematoma. This is her second hematoma in a year. Her infections in the past have been both yeast and bacterial infections.

She has allergies and was recently allergy tested. No food allergies showed up but she is most allergic to dust mites. She is currently taking Zyrtec twice a day.

My question is has anyone had luck curing recurring ear infections? I appreciate any input. It may be time to start allergy shots and that's one of the options I will discuss with my Vet.

Had the same problem

I had a Basset that had chronic ear infections. (common for Bassets) Our vet had us try feeding him Science Diet ZD Ultra. He never had another ear infection.

ear troubles are external....

signs of a internal chronic disease......most likely food realted alleriges.....tropical treatmrent is only tempory you need to find the underling cause.....i would go raw for 1 month to see if this helps....
try this in the mean time :
mix one half ounce olive oil with 100 iu of vit e, and one fourth teaspoon tree tea oil...
inbetween cleaning use vinegar 5 to 25% solution...
:then another one to reduce awelling and pain is a tea of st johns wort....
hope these help a little....

Re: Recurring ear infections

I am so sorry you are having all these problems, but it sounds like you have done the right thing getting the dog checked for allergies. I have dealt with this issue, having an allergic dog, and my veterinary dermatologist was a life saver for my dog. He got all his skin issues under control, and any ear issues that I had, and I had many, we handled by him. He made a special concoction of drops that I used on a daily basis and it worked wonders on those ears. The shots also helped keep him confortable. In the beginning I was somewhat skeptical, and tried stopping, and had a big flare up, went back on the program, and the dog responded and went back to being comfortable again, so I know it worked well. If you have not seen a dermatologist, I would highly recommend it. Besides skin they also treat ear issues. I wish you and your dog good luck and hope you can get this under control soon.
