Took my 5yr old female in to Dr. B because she has been peeing on everything and I noticed a couple of drops of blood in a blanket so I figured maybe she has a UTI. Doctor didn't do nothing but checked her history and said that because she has had UTI's before she needed to change her diet.Because the last Urine Analysis in May came back w/ PH 8.5 and also showed she had Struvite Crystals 2+. Not sure what those results mean so she said to change her diet and see what happens. So they sold me some Prescription Dog Food called C/D.
Does anybody have there dog on Prescription food by C/D?
If so why is your bully on it?
Is there something else that is equivalent to this food?
Thanks

Sadie also had a history of UTIs. She had high PH...
and struvite crystals. Dr. Butchko told me I needed to increase her protein. We didn't put her on a prescription food. I added boiled chicken to her regular kibble and then had a urinalysis in a month. There was a major change in the PH and the crystals went down to a trace. I eventually changed her kibble to a higher protein food and have not had a problem since.

Not sure about the food...
But I can help you with the lab results. A normal urine ph is around 5-6. Anything below 7 is acidic, above 7 is alkalotic. A ph of 8.5 is very alkalotic, and this allows the struvite crystals to form. The crystals can basically scratch the lining of the urinary tract and cause a bit of bleeding to occur.
The prescription diet is probably geared toward acidifying the urine so the crystals can't form.
When Q had this issue, I put him on Vit C, and methioform tablets. There are some foods with a form of methioform in it. Again, not sure if that's what the U/D has - probably others can help you out with that.
