Hi all! My husband and I just got a puppy english bulldog one week ago. He is 2 months old and just so adorable!!! I have a few questions. Since we've brought him home he has had soft stools but eats, drinks, and plays like a champ! At his first vet appt I was told to bring a stool sample. It turned out Rocco had Giardia. He's been on his meds for five days (it was a five day supply). On the third day his stool was great..I was so happy but yesterday (day #4 of meds) his stool started to get soft pudding like again. I have slowly changed his food and now he is on Blue Buffalo puppy food.
He was left in his x pen today while we went to a birthday party. We left him with water, his bed, toys, and wee wee pads. When we came home there was diarrhea all over. He also had a bout an hour ago as well. Do you think he still has Giardia? Does he have a nervous stomach because we left him alone? He is very attached to me and gets upset when he can't see me. I feel so terrible for him but I'm a teacher and I'm starting work this week so he will be alone for about 8 hours. I just need some suggestions. I'm a nervous mommy right now who wants the best for my baby bully!! I will be calling the vet tomorrow and telling him everything but I really wanted to join this forum because I know there are many people on here who can give great advice. Thank you all for reading this far!!
Sounds like your trying hard to do what's best! Hang in there,
You've already found the best place to find info on everything bulldog related. This forum is a great place for new (and old) bulldog owners. I have had a bulldog for over ten years and I learn something new here daily.
Any questions, or problems, please don't hesitate to post.
Bulldogs ARE different from other breeds so the experience on here is extremely valuable!
I would try the canned pumpkin, as a friend had a new puppy with similar issues and the pumpkin did the trick in just a few days!

We didn't know
he had Giardia until we took him to the vet (we had him for two days). I slowly transitioned his food because I couldn't find the food the breeder fed him anywhere (the vet didn't know what it was either) I heard blue buffalo food was good quality so we tried it. I've never owned a dog before so this is all new to me and I just want the best for him.
Thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to see how he is today and bring another stool sample to the vet.

giardia
I also had a pup with giardia. It sometimes comes from drinking from ponds, pools of water and is passed to the puppies from the mom. You probably should check the stools again to make sure it is gone. It took a few months before it was gone in my girl. Good luck. Oh I also changed food after I found out the giardia was gone and she still had very loose stools and it almost cleared up completely after the food change. I use Nutro chicken.

Why did you switch him from whatever the breeder was feeding at
the giardia was resolved. Try going back to his original food as the new may be upsetting his system.

Re: New Puppy Bulldog
5 days of meds is not long enough to see good results. You need to be diligent about giving medication and give it more time.

I wouldn't have switched his food at the same time
that he has giardia, makes it impossible to know what is causing the diarrhea. As mentioned, it may be the food that isn't agreeing with him, finding the right food is trial and error, every dog is different.
Good luck.

Congrats on the new puppy! He will bring you great joy!
I don't have any experience with Giardia but I do know that giving a puppy a Tablespoon of canned pumpkin (plain with NO sugar) with his food will often help with the diarrhea.
I also know that our puppy Harley got extremely bad diarrhea when we first switched his food. Had to try a few different ones before we got one that worked for him.
Good Luck, and enjoy Rocco!

Koji had the same problem, vet said:
wasn't enough fiber in her food; switched to Solid Gold and pumpkin, no more problems...
