So I adopted a beautiful girl that has demorex mange and food allergies. I feed her stella and chewy's raw duck duck goose and she likes it. Ive also been giving her kaufman's stress management powder and dr goldstein nuggets from earth animal. but I had not bought in 2 weeks so I was worried about giving her this product called promeris for fleas and ticks and helps this mange problem. Well I gave her 2nd dose of promeris on Tuesday by Wed. morning I have a dog with seizures and with a temp of 103.7 regularly her temp it 102 no higher or lower. Can I say I feel like the worst owner in the world. Ive come to rescue her and now she is so sad and well she just has no energy. Did take her to the vet. While she was at the vet she didnt have anymore seizure they did blood work on her and very thing looked great. they brought down the temp. but my lola isnt the crazy puppy. She will be 1 in Oct. How do I make her better? My other 2 boy bullies have been protecting her, giving her kisses and they sleep contouring her body. She has not poop in 24 hrs but she has peep. Ok so my point is I need help advice something. Negative or positive please help me get her better. The vet. owns a bully so he knows whats up with the breed. He hates that I give her Raw. We wants me to put on Wellness duck and sweet potato. She is allergic to wheat, glutens, grains. What am I doing wrong?
yes this drug works as well
but also has the same side effects as Promeris or any other heartworm treatment that is used off label.
The only down fall with Interceptor IMO is that its more pricy than all the others and thier off label use for demodectic mange treatment is a dosage time frame of 90 days. If we did that in resce we wouldtn have room for alotof dogs. unfortunalty with all the dogs comming into rescue we need to treat and get them adopted within a reasonable time frame to move in others who are waiting to come in.
With Promeris we have had demodex free dogs within 2-4 weeks.
I just finished 6 weeks of Advanatage Multi with a rescue with no succcess, very disapointing! She still has full blown mites, all alive and kicking! So its back to Promeris for me!

Promeris can cause seizures....
Did you know you can also use Interceptor to treat demodex? Read the full articlehttp://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_demodectic_mange.html
SOMETHING ELSE YOUR VETERINARIAN MIGHT TRY -- INTERCEPTOR®
Interceptor (active ingredient: Milbemycin oxime) is normally marketed as a monthly heartworm preventive; when it is used on a daily basis, it is effective against generalized demodicosis. This discovery was welcomed by the veterinary profession as finally demodicosis can be treated without labor intensive dipping or concern about ivermectin sensitivity. The downside to this treatment is expense as Interceptor is typically sold in 6 dose packages and it is not uncommon for several months of treatment to be needed. Sometimes it is possible to obtain discounted product that is short-dated (meaning it will expire before six months have passed). This product cannot be sold for heartworm prevention if it will expire before it is used up but for daily use against Demodex mites it would be fine and used well before its expiration date.
INTERCEPTOR MAY BE USED IN ANY PATIENT SAFELY;
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE IS EXPENSE.

first of all, the Promeris we use for demodex all the time. When using Promeris for treatment of mites it should be applied topically every two weeks with a skin scraping after the second to third treatment to see if its effective.
Who reccomened the Promeris?
How often are you using it?
When you applied it did you apply it to just one area or several? Several areas work better than putting it all along the neck or shoulder blade.
Did you get the correct dosage per body weight?
Promeris works for treatment of demodex because it contains Amitraz which is the ingredient used in dips such as Mitaban- which is another way of treating demodex. Some dogs have toxic side effects to demodex treatments that contain amitrazz or ivercide-ivermectin. These side effects can include, lethargy, vomiting, diarreah, and in severe cases seizures and temporary blindness. Thiis is usually only temporary and goes away once the medication wears off or dilutes into the body systems.
Since the dog likely had a toxic effect you may need to treat her in smaller doses for a longer period of time or resort to using Ivermectin instead, also in a smaller dose- I have had this happen with a few rescues. I had to decrease the Ivermectin dosage to 1/20th cc per 10 pounds instead of 1/10cc per 10 pounds.
With the Promeris you can order the dose package for a smaller dog- ie the 20 pound weight and apply it vs using the 40-60 one and wasting it once opened. Or Once you open it put it in a container that will keep it fresh and uncontaminated.
