On the 29 August Lulu had her operation and that has healed very well but scar tissue developed on her leg where here IV was. She has been to the vet twice with this and last friday it seemed to spread further up her leg but not connected to the original scar. She was at the vets again and I have treating it daily. It does not seem to cause her pain and she is active, walking more than usual when I am delighted about but yesterday morning and this morning she has not eaten, she did eat last night, she is nine months old this week [the 15th].
Her legs do not bleed nor does she itch or scratch them but I am worried that something else may be behind it which it whats affecting her appetite. She is due to have blood tests and a skin scraping next monday pending the outcome of her current treatment.
In summary:-
- Is scar tissue following an IV expected and should it speard in a Hive like growth further up her leg?
- She is on Royal Canine Medium Dog Puppy food at the moment as was advised until she reached a year as it contained more vitamins for her growth and particular her bones that the Royal Canine Bulldog 24, is this correct or should she be on adult food at nine months.
Re: have the area cultured
Thank you for that.
I am treating the area from her elbow to her toes with a surgical wash that I received from the vet which seems to be helping her leg.
Regards, the dehydration - I will check that this evening.
Thank you

have the area cultured
it could be that an infection has occured in that area where the IV was put in from either bacteria entering the host or a vet who did not use standard precautions when inserting the IV (clean technique)
So it could be cellulitis that has developed.
Take her temperature.
Monitor her color (check the inside of the mouth on her gums for capillary refill time. Color should be pink and when pressed will turn lighter color but come back as pink within 2-3 seconds.
If poor color then she is dehydrated.
Keep us posted.

well then the iv could....
have leaked outside the vein....it may cause irration but nothing else....it may also travel to the elbow but should go no further and start to heal....just give it a week or two to heal up....

Its where the IV went in to her leg the scar where the operation
was carried out has healed very well.
She does not scratch them at all nor when I touch them does she react, they dont seem to bother her but I dont want them to spread or start to cause her any soreness.
She is really good when it comes to any medication she has taken or when cleaning them with the solution I got from the vet.

scar tissue?
are you talking about where the iv went in on the leg? or where the operation was done....If where the iv was and if this is where your problem is....some times a iv leak outside the vein it was placed in....it should not cause a health problem but will depending on what was going thru the iv a irration...it should clear up in a week or two....just make sure the skin where the iv was is not breaking down...your vet should be taking a careful watch on this....keep dry and dont let lulu chew or scratch the site....

idk maybe she's allergic to the stiches
My Bella had a reaction to the stiches when she was spayed.
