their have been several questions regarding health and what the breeder "should" do....what the breeder is "responsible" for.....i would never buy a puppy mill dog meaning store bought...that is a whole mess in itself....
but here goes for me.... i did my homework found the color and lines that i thought were good....nothing bad about the breeder...i had a couple of handlers inquire for me.....stud was in the top ten....that breeder had been around for years more than 10...
now my dog has hypolastic trechea...breeder reaction oh really hmmmmm well he should still be ok....has hemi vertbrea oh really hmmmm well i dont know.....breeder is a member of bca...where is their responsibility????? now at two he is having problems walking.....its just intresting the shrug of the shoulders and the cold shoulder.....when we were showing and winning it was a different story.....now its who what oh.....i should'nt i get back 1/2 of my purchase price? i am unable to show due to weak back end.... i would like some thoughts about this.....
he was healthy the second time.....
the x rays were taken.....it was like a 1 year after the org x rays were done.....and it is hpyo plastic.....he also has hemi vertbrea and it is pinching a nerve in his back that is being taken care of by accupuncture.....

Agree on this point...x-ray a healthy dog.
There can be swelling all throughout the inhalation process when the dog is sick. When the dog was anesthetized, what size trachea tube was used...do you know? On an adult dog (2yrs old) the average trach would be somewhere 7 to 8...and I've been told that "hypoplastic" would be half of that or less.

and the xrays should be taken when the dog is 100% healthy
vs sick.

i agree with you....
i have been in dogs for over 30 years mostly rotties.....you do to a point live and learn....but some times you just get dissapointed...some times you feel it isnt fair....i wanted a pup i could have fun again at the shows...not to breed i have no intention of breeding...but i have lots of friends at the shows and i just wanted a nice pup to go have fun with....so i am dissapointed and a little hurt....but life goes on....i would never publicly blast this person...
yes i did send a ofa in when he turned two.....according to them he has it.... i just have to careful that he does not inhale....and any surgery would have to life threating for him to go under....
thanks for your response.....

when he first had pneumonia....
the first x ray was taken at 3 months then a second when he was 2 yo.....when we did the chest we saw the verterbe and redid those at two also....
you can take a small straw and put it up against the trachea and the straw is bigger....

it would be extremely rare for this to be hypo plastic trachea
if there has only been one bout of pneumonia... it is usually a constant losing battle. Also if the xray is not taken on inhalation it will not be accurate. Not saying it isn't but this is the knowledge that I have :O)

Tracheas
I would hold off a little on an "official" diagnosis of hypo plastic trachea. The fact of the matter is there aren't enough Bulldog x-rays in the data base for the OFA to be able to determine what is normal and what isn't for a Bulldog. Yes, they are giving out ratings...but who knows that may all change once they get an adequate number of dogs in the system. What was thought to be hypo plastic may very well end up being normal for a Bulldog. I hope you did submit your boys x rays to the OFA to aid in their research.
Have you inquired to the breeder of your dog about the possibility of a refund? Sometimes we just have to live and learn. I have had dealings with people that went bad. We recently had a couple have us make basically an emergency shipment of semen from one of our studs... they never did pay us. There were no resulting puppies from their bitch supposedly, but the same male has produced large litters in two bitches. Maybe something was wrong with their bitch..maybe they are lieing to us. Either way we're out 160 bucks just for shipping... like I said live and learn.

thank you for responding intresting.....
in that a dog has to be returned....i would never return him and 99% of all breeders know this...people are not going to return some thing they love.....when i bred my rotties....if a vet sent a statement that their was a heritary problem....i would replace or refund 1/2 their money....not the good old stand by send them back to me....as a professional breeder yes if i bought a breeding stud or bitch it went back.....and if a professional person bought from me they sent back....but the general public who loves their pet...you cant ask that....
both my vets are board certified....and even a lay person can ead the x ray of hypolastic reache and hemi verbretra are very easy to see....so unless i send my youngester back its oh well??? i would never buy another dog from this line....so a replacment is not a option....but 1/2 of my money would be.....but do you think this is unfair???? of me....and pleae understand i am not questioning any ones breeding pratice....just what should a breeder do that would be fair....

Most guarantees state the dog must be returned
and IMO that is awful. They also cover congenital life threatening defects.
IN breeding you can breed 2 of the best and get an unhealthy dog, that is just the way things go. Just like in humans you never know what you will get. You can do all the testing in the world and something will pop up. Many dogs have Hemi and have no problems at all, and my understanding is that a hemi should not cause any problems. (what i have read/not experienced)
your first line should be discussing things with your breeder. Also are you seeing a bulldog vet, this can be the difference between life and death with a bulldog and a correct diagnosis.
I can not comment about your dog, i dont know the dog, dont know the vet or if its a correct diagnosis.
