Help

Ruby had a c section and had 3 puppies Sunday. This is the 4th day and she has this heavy panting. No fever, eats well and feeds the puppies well. Pups are healthy and gaining weight. Has anyone ever had this happen before and what was it? I got some pain medication from the vet today but is still panting. Her mammory glands seem fine and has plenty of milk. Its driving me crazy.
Thanks for any opinions as Bulldog people know better than any vet.

Us ually they pant for up to a week due to pain from the section

throat from the intubation and also due to the milk just coming in at 3 - 4 days. Prior to that what is in the mammery gland is the colestrum.

when the puppies nurse....

it causes oxytocin to be released... the oxytocin helps shrink the uterus back to its normal size... which causes mild cramping and is the reason for panting..... this will stop.... for all the ladies out there who had babies and breast fed you know exactly what I am talking about.......

Re: Help

Janie panted for a few days after her c-section, the c-section took alot out of Janie and it took almost a week to recover. I would check her temperature, if that is OK and she eating and pooping I'd think she will be OK. Give Dr Bostly a call in the morning if she's still panting. How's the puppies look. They're sired by Atlas, right? Send me some pictures of the puppies, please. I hope she's OK, keep me informed.
