Food question, are fish formula foods bad???

So, food issues yet again... Who knew this would be such a task finding a suitable food for our bully Burger. I was browsing the K9 Cuisine website in search of a food that will hopefully work. We had samples of Orijen fish and he really liked it, but I ran across a new Wellness food called Simple Food Solutions. I was wondering if anyone here has tried this, if so how has it worked for your bully? Also, can fish formulas cause skin issues in Bulldogs?

At a little over 1yrs old we has been having MAJOR issues with Wellness CORE's Ocean formula for the past 2months, his puppy pits (under his front legs) and the soft skin near his groin are red and crusty. I also suspect this has been causing him to have some itchy ear issues and tear stains. The vet gave us a shampoo of benzoyl peroxide to wash him with one weekly and to wash the irritated areas daily. He also gave him a cortisone shot which in my opinion did nothing. We switched to the CORE fish from NB Venison & Sweet Potato as well as NB Fish because it caused soft serve poop. Firm poop is just not worth seeing my dog-child itchy and in pain.

I would love to give him raw but it would put us in the poorhouse!

Exactly, anything can cause a reaction, depending on the dog

Hooch is allergic to poultry, lamb and probably beef...he can have buffalo, venison and fish. He is also allergic to zucchini, white potatoes, carrots, peanut butter, alfalfa and eggs...and more. Finding a food for him was like having another full-time job. Rememner he could also have environmental allergies. I would try allergy testing. We've had amazing results with a holistic vet, much better than overusing cortisone, in case you are interested in going that route.

Protein sources

are duck, lamb, salmon & venison. Each one is paired with ground rice, canola oil and tomato pomace. I will surely start looking into the possible culprit of his skin irritation...potatoes! You learn something new everyday!!!

Any protein source

Can cause allergies. Although, fish contains omega fatty acids - something that's good for skin and coat. But, if your boy is allergic, that's that!
My boy can only eat fish-based foods. He reacts to just about everything else I've tried.
If you guy is doing OK on Venison, Canine Caviar makes a venison-based food. There's also a possibility that your dog has a potato allergy. Sometimes, it's worse with white vs sweet potatoes.
Some have had allergy testing done for their dogs with variable success.
I know all about the "fun" of trying to find a food that agrees with your dog. Bottom line, the best food for him is the one that works! Good luck!
