Deuce has to go in for his rabies vaccine and we have the choice of 1 year or 3 year. My question is this, for the 3 year vaccine are they pumping in 3 times the amount of vaccine at once?? I know you HAVE to get rabies but can you titer to see the amount of vaccine still left in his system? I just don't want to over-vaccinate.
its the same shot either way
They are the same exact injection so to answer your question, NO a 3 year is not a triple doser! LOL! There is no differance other than if you want to bring your dog back in one year VS three years. Otherwise the vaccine is identical.

most times when you....
go to get their license.....their are very few states that require more than a rabies.....where you get into the bs about vaccines....most kennels will not board without a full set up to date vaccine...some times vets wont take your pet as an emergency if not done.....so you need to find places that will take a titer....thats blood work to make sure all your antibodies are up (not so for rabies) and your dog is protected.....my animal hospital now does all vaccines and rabies every three years...i only titer every three years....
list where you live what state their are people from their i am sure from this board and they can let you no....
in mass rabies only is required also in conn...

Thanks, 3 year it is......
Thanks for clearing that up that it isn't 3 years worth of vaccine in one dose, that makes me feel better. I don't know why they gave me a choice either, she said I could do the 1 year but the 3 year is also available. Maybe she said it was becuase the only rabies vaccine Deuce had was the 1 year because he was a puppy...who knows. But when we go next month he will be getting the 3 year.
Anyone know how you can find what vaccines are REQUIRED in your state??

you first get a one year vaccine then you get one every three years....not sure why their giving you a choice its just confusing...i would not get any vaccine except by law its required.....do the 3 year your safe and its not three times the amount it happens to be the same as the one year thou many vets and people will tell you its different....i was a vet tech for 20 years...
just go for your 3 year.....

3 year is generally the accepted time frame on Rabies Vacc,
I would not bother with every year...too much stuff in the system in my opinion:-) Every 3 years is plenty. I do not think you can titer on Rabies to avoid a shot every 3, but I am not sure.
