Crystalographic stones, increased excretion and calnasodigital hyperkeratosis help

anyone with any experience with this could you please help us. Is there any other food or treats this boy can eat. The adoptive mom is having behaviorial issues with Carl and no positive way to train. He wants to dominate her. Her vet says no treats other than green beans and he hates them. We have had a trainer there 4 times and either the mom isn't following through or its not positive. Please any input would be helpful. thanks Pam

Carl was on Royal Canine K9 Urinary SO13, 35 lbs was sixty one dollars. The only other food allowed is Hills UD which is what my vet can get. All of Carls exams say bones joints and muscles nomal no limping yet he limps badly because of his knees and back. He has nasodigital hyperkeratosis of the nose, seasonal alopecia which he has already gotten for me. He has chronic ear infections. He now is on the second in three weeks type of antibitics for urinary tract infections each costing over eighty dollars. He has had o have six urine tests because of complications in eight months. I noticed the family declined vaccinations n april od 07. Carl has Crystalographic stones, increased excretion of calcium and oxalate. It says use plant based diet not animal based. Surgery on 4/13/06 was Cystotomy and urethrotomy.

Carl needs help!

Your bulldog is suffering from some (I feel) serious health issue and the last thing he needs is a trainer. He needs love, support, and excellent medical care. Are you using a very good bulldog vet? I currently am loved and the mother of Gabriel, a big old boy of 85 lbs. He had these same problems. After 2 sugeries to remove bladder stones, he was still having difficulty. His body continued to make stones. Bladder stones hurt really bad. Long story short, he had to have a scrotal urthostomy (spelling). It was very serious surgery but now he is fine. Here is the problem. You have to be willing to go to the limit for him. His body will never stop porducing stones. Gabe is on RC Purine #18 which helps, but he also has a female opening so he can urinate. He too has some joint problems. Good luck with this. If I sounded harsh, it is because I like you, but I LOVE bulldogs!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, Gabbie is 4 years old!

Treats are not the only positive reinforcer...

Voice and touch can be very effective (provided the dog doesn't get tons of "free love"). She could also try some of the dog's kibble as a training treat. My dogs love citrus slices. I would contact the vet for other suggestions, too.
Good luck with him! Bless you guys for helping this boy.

judy wilson's picture

just left the vets and she said....

hyperparthyrodism should be ruled out....a fasted serum triycerides should be done.....
a diet high in moisture 85%...canned food is the best as most are 75% water...adding moisture to dry will not give enough of an increase.....
high vit c will help....
hope this helps
