Boy, I guess I nailed it. She has a large tumor on her spleen. Xrays and ultrasounds showed that it has not metastacized to other organs (although tiny nodules can happen and won't show until she's opened up), so it's a 75% chance she'll be 100% longterm with surgical removal.
She had breakfast today, so I am taking her in Monday morning to have her spleen removed. I adopted Lily (before Betty) at 11 years old and she'd already had one, it never seemed to effect her. Vet said it is one organ that can do without just fine. It makes red blood cells and effects the immune system a bit, but the other organs somehow pick up the slack when it is gone.
If I leave it in, she could bleed out, or if cancer, will kill her. So, simple decision. The surgery will leave her a bit pale for a few days because of the lack of red cell production and blood loss. So, that will be the only touchy time...
My vet is awesome with bullies, he pre-oxygenates, won't use an injectible pre-anesthetic and will mask her down on just gas, and will monitor closely himself throughout the day afterwards, I will get her back that afternoon for home recovery.
This is her 6th surgery since I adopted her 1-1/2 years ago, but all necessary and she always does well. My stomach is in knots, but I trust my vet and God that she will be fine and thankful it's treatable!

God bless Betty and you
My Spotty had a splenectomy after cancer was discovered in his intestine. There were spleen changes that the radiologist thought could be additional cancer, so we decided to remove the spleen along with the intestinal tumor.
As it turned out, the spleen changes were benign. We had nearly 2 more years after that. I was amazed at how quickly Spotty recovered from that surgery.
Betty has the same fighting spirit. I hope you will have a good outcome, and she will recover quickly. We will be thinking of you!

Well darn
I guess that mummy-meter is on high alert when it comes to that girl - lucky for her. Surgery sucks but it sounds like it's a no-brainer - must be done!
And I know they don't need a spleen because I learned that in the Jack Ryan movie with Harrison Ford when his little girl was in a car crash and they had to take out her spleen. She was fine!
Smooches to Miss B!

Gosh
6 surgeries, you 2 have been thru the ringer!
I'm so glad it's something that can come out without causing problems. I'll sure be thinking of her Monday. Boy she hit the lottery when she found you. I'm glad she has such a great mom to take care of and love her. =)
Hug your bulldog every day.
