Bella the female bully is great with her nails being done. YOU can even paint them and she has had them painted already..lol
but Gus on the other hand is MR> IMPOSSIBLE
I tried the dremel but wanted nothing to do with that idea
short of 2 people to hold him when I do them..I have NO great idea how to get them done.
at the vets........HE Just hands them his paw....go figure that one out. I could take him to the vet to have them trimmed all the time but that gets expensive and they grow fast, the nails on bulldogs
thanks for your imput.
Re: best way to trim a bulldogs nails??? add your ideas
the only way I can trim one of my boys is to turn him over on his back and straddle him putting a bit of my weight on him. He then lays pretty still. Any other way is impossible.

My Chow Mix is the exact same way
When I do it at home, he is actually very nervous, I can feel him shaking. When I am alone, I get him into a corner (he's a medium size dog), just so I feel that I have more control of a situation. I don't push him in the corner, I usually play with him and inch there and then pull the Dremel out of my pocket. I sit on the ground in front of him and he will usually struggle a bit but will let me dremel them. Every toe or two I give him ear rubs, which he absolutely loves. He is almost 2 years old now and it has taken a long time to get him to let me do it at home, I really believe it is because he watches how good Tessie is with the Dremel. Also, I cannot let my Fiance be part of the situation - I think my Fiance lets off a vibe that makes Scruffy freak out even more, so we do it when Daddy isn't home, LOL.
Good Luck, be patient and it will all work out.

HE MIGHT just do that..........
I will try to be a bit more assertive when I do it and try some extra treats for him too.
I have to try to put him on a table... that is a great idea too. when you think of it that is what the vet does, put them on the table and trims them. I have to try it.
I will try both of these ideas and post back later day. today is the day he gets the nails trimmed.

I really think it's your energy
Hate to sound like Cesar Milan but the dog senses your energy when you are doing this. You know he hates it therefore you are probably giving off a nervous energy going into it. If you are calm and assertive from the get go he will get better. Go into it like this is a job you do every day, no big deal and hopefully he will follow suit and be a good patient.

treats
I have it easy because I train them when they are puppies. Sit in my lap, dremmel one nail, get a small piece of cheese. I still do it this way. Just be careful that your dog doesn't fall or jump off a high table or washing machine.

I always use my grooming table
Norbert was impossible on the ground...but put him on the table and he did just fine with the dremel. Hated the toe nail clippers.
My others have all been pretty easy to do nails on.

I agree,...................you never want
them at their level. That might be the reason vet use a table. Whenever I try to do any type of medications or cleanings on the floor, it turns into a battle. I did get a table that I now use. The only problem now is convincing them to come in the room and lift those heavy butts.

My trainer told me
To put them on top of the washing machine or dryer to cut their nails. I did this the last time I dremeled Trace's and it worked great.
