So our bitch is preganant and our vet has us waiting until she goes into labor any idea how long it will take for her to have her first pup? some peolpe say between 12-24 hours.
We didnt plan it or have an AI so that is why we are in this situtaion we are now just trying to better prepare our selves happy.gif

I think what your vet means

is that he wants to see signs of labor before taking the pups via c-section, or at least i hope. I dont normally like to see a Bulldog bich free whelp a litter. It is very risky and often ends up requiring an emergency c-section anyway, after the pup stuck in the birth canal is dead and gone!

Temp normally drops below 98..stays there consistantly. Take temp at the same time ever day...a drop below 98 for sevral readings usually means they are 24 hours from delivering. They also pant, a pant that mimics a human IMO. Its much different than a pant from exertion or play time.

So please clarify this with your vet. It may be the fact that this was unplanned. If you do not know the day of ovulation or conception, that makes timing a little difficult. Normal gestation is 63 days. But some dont make it that far and go into labor around day 58-60. Anything sooner then lungs are not fully mature and its hard to keep them alive.

Please know that you can draw a progesterone reading to know if she is close ..ask your vet about this.

did you have an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy?

how old is she? was she bred by another bulldog or different breed? i would be really worried about letting her go into full blown labor and getting a puppy stuck.... if she starts showing signs and her temp has been down i would take her in.... have you been taking her temp? normal temp is 101-102... usually if it gets down around 99 they are close but you should be taking it 2 times a day. take it at the same times each day because it will vary, ie: 7am and 7pm (just an example)... be consistent. temp isnt 100 percent that they are in labor but watch for nesting, panting, water breakage, she may look at her rear end, etc.... good luck....

not much help

My vet told me that once her water broke I'd have 2 - 3 hours before she would deliver a pup but once the water broke to go to the vet. Not sure if that is accurate or not as we never made it that far.
